Hi All,

Do you personally know any one who recently lost their job and run back home? I've heard that a lot of big names are letting hundreds of people go...

so far we laid off 2 VPs and 3 managers and 10 associates. and we had shut down our regional office in Bahrain.

I am still keeping my job... knock wood.

I read about that on the news. I just didn't see it happening to someone I know and I wonder how many of those guys would be heading home.

Interestingly, they mentioned a survey this morning on the Business Breakfast radio show. It targeted expats and asked then what they would do if they were sacked.

60% said they would try to stay in Dubai or the GCC and look for another job.
20% said they would try to move to another expat country (singapore etc)
20% said they would go home.

It was only a small sample (170 people) though. It shows that people are optimistic, but I guess that 60% who are staying depends on them finding another job. If they didn't they would look elsewhere, then home I suspect. No dole here.
