I plan to visit to Dubai for 2-3 months to find out more about the city and seek business ventures. I plan to rent apartment or room in somewhere in Marina. Not sure thou... My question is simple. Does a white-collar businessman need a car in Dubai. How concentrated is Dubai? My experience from other metropoles, such as New York and London, is that car is more trouble than good. I don't want to rush in buying or leasing a car either... Can you possibly move around with taxis and how far is that Dubai Metro project?

Metro will start by September 2009. Catch taxis the first week or two then consider rental. Dubai is difficult to navigate and traffic jams slow you down.

but beware and bring a map when traveling by taxi - a number of them are new to the city and dont have a clue sometimes. also looks like metro is not going to make sept 09 either

I thought metro was ahead of schedule (one of the few things in Dubai that is)?
