Hi All,

I've recently been offered a position at telecoms company based in Academic City, I believe surrounding areas are Silicon Oasis and International City.

Does anyone know:
Which areas are commutable from Academic City?
Whats the traffic like in those areas?
Rent prices like?

Will I be able to live in Maria area and commute to Academic City?
Can someone with a UK driving license drive in Dubai?

I am living in International City currently. I think International City is the best for you. It is very near to Academic City. I would say roughly around 10 minutes drive or so.

I assume that you r talking bout Marina as you have typed Maria.. =)

Marina to Academic City will take around 20-30 minutes. Depends on the congestion. Marine rental price are much much higher than International City. You can drive in Dubai with ur UK license. You jes need to convert your license to UAE license.

Silicon Oasis is closer to DAC than Int. City, but more expensive. UK licence conversion should be straightforward. You can drive rental car with UK licence while on visit visa. Once you get residence visa you must have UAE licence to drive. More here UAE change driving licence .

I would personally put a little more into buying or renting and go for Silicon Oasis. It is a great community.
