Newbie to Dubai Nov 27, 2008
Hi All,

I've been offered a job in Dubai near International city and planning on moving there early 2009. I'd like to get some idea of the rental cost of apartments near International City and Dubai Academic City.

I'm looking for a 2 bed apartment. I've seen them for around 120k AED/per annum.

What sort of salary (all inclusive) would someone need to have a decent quality of life in Dubai?

Any links on where to look for apartments, agents or landlord details will be very useful.

Any comments will be much appreciated.

I moved out 2 weeks ago and my temporary company accommodation is in International city. To give you an idea of how dismal the place is the company have told me I can stay there for at least 2 months until I find my feet......I found a new place to stay last week!!! Granted Int city and Silicon Oasis are both pretty cheap compared to the rest of Dubai but that's because these places are somewhat in the sticks.
But I suppose it depends upon what sort of lifestyle you want?! If you are single or moving here on your own then I wouldn't recommend this area, you'd probably find that most of your friends you make will live in/near the marina/greens etc.
From here the Marina is about 35 mins and 70 Dirhams in a taxi (about £13) and that's if you can get one.
At the moment there seem to be a lot of empty apartments everywhere but rents are still shooting up due to the uncertainty in the (purchasing) property market.
If you're still happy to live in Int city then you should be able to get a 2 bed for 120k. Or there are 1 beds in the Marina/Media City for that money and some come with a small maid's room?!

Try the Better Homes website or Dubbizle for apts. Hope this post isn't too negative! Wherever you live I'm sure you'll love it here!

you wont find a 2 bed in the Marina under 200k

1 beds will cost you around 150k minimum

(these prices exclude Marina Diamond)

I have no friends living at the marina/greens etc. So it will depend on the company you keep.
