Can anyone let me know whether (I am guessing there must be) there is a property tax like the council tax in the UK and how much it is likely to be on a property costing 1million AED? Thanks.

2 kinds of taxes are here.

Fee when you register the property with lands, I think it's 1% now
and Housing fee paid along with your DEWA bill @ 0.5% PA

there aint no income tax now...

what if they plan to start?

Then we'll all move to another Emirate - or get a pay rise.

On owned properties, its 1.5% on proerties completed prior to December 2006 and 1% subsequent to Dec 2006.

On rental properties it is 5% of the annual rent payable.
