What can I expect in housing? Oct 14, 2008
I'm going to look for a job teaching ESL in a language school or international school. What kind of housing can I expect? How well-furnished would it be? I'm just curious.

There is no norm/ standard, and no clear guideline I’m afraid.

Some schools may provide teachers with accommodation, others not.
If they do supply accommodation it may be unfurnished or furnished.
This is normally dependant on the school that you’ll be teaching at. The higher the school fees the more the school can afford to offer their teachers perks – although this is not always the case ;)

Thanks! I don't want to build up my expectations unrealistically. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that there is no standard as such.

When you start looking seriously at positions then ask about accommodation, there is no harm and you have nothing to lose. If you don’t mention it they are not very likely offer it.

That's good advice. I was originally assuming they would automatically offer housing. Thanks again. :)
