New design for Dubai Forums Aug 30, 2008
How do you like the new design of Dubai Forums?
I didn't add new graphics just tried to make the old design cleaner.

+ removed the ads for registered users
+ added quick reply
+ made the design narrow so that it is readable on wide screens.
+ added a new improved search from google that doesn't redirect to another site.
+ removed unnecessary links for guests(unregistered users can't see profiles of registered members etc)

If you miss some features or the design doesn't work well in your browser please write about it in this thread.

If when you log in the old design appear - change the style in you profile from "subsilver" to "dubai"

Thank you.

Hmm phpBB2 will retire on January 1, 2009.

Anyway, it looks really good-looking now.

esign ok pretty much the same Aug 30, 2008
Design is quite the same. The fonts are ever smaller and what you plan to put on the right side. Most of the people these days have wide screens.

What browser are you using?
The design should be centered.
At least in firefox and opera it is.

Thanks, I am trying to change the colors now so that it looks nice on cheaper LCD monitors.
It's not so easy some colors that on my monitor looks nice on cheap LCDs aren't visible at all. :(

Regarding phpBB2 retirement..
Dubai forums have a lot of modifications and optimizations for search engines...
When it will be impossible to continue without switching to phpbb3 I will.

I only have found two modifications on this website. Seems not so many.

I'm using firefox on a wide screen and I have huge spaces on the left and right side. But it's no big deal.

As soon as I log in it goes back to the old format, not sure what's going on.

Andy, I am not a regular visitor to this forum but I prefer the following to be considered while designing/re-designing of web.

1. It should be more user friendly. Forum members can easily move through threads without taking more minutes to pass. May be heavy graphics make user not to involve much.

2. Since most of the forum members are working continuously on computers irrespective of whether they are using CRT, LCD etc, simple colours will be appreciable.

These are few suggestions from my side. I'd prefer the level of ease of use rather the glowing stuffs.

It would also be nice if you can view the first few words/sentences in a thread by just hovering over the title. I've seen it done in similar phpBB forums.

Sounds like some people may have missed this? Seems to work fine for me.

Although I'm getting logged out more frequently recently but I think that might be an IP security issue - it's been happening on other forums too.

You probably didn't change the design in your user profile.
Change it from subsliver to Dubai

I can try it. But this means that the pages will be bigger and load slower.

As soon as I log in it goes back to the old format, not sure what's going on.

Change the design in your user profile from subsliver to Dubai

Man, Are you serious about this new color!!
to be honest, the original theme is so far better than this new color,,, so i suggest to keep it and just u may change the forums logo, u may think about a landscape logo of SZR, or a pic of World Map islands, or see this

looks nice too,,,

What color do you mean?
I'm testing this design on 4 different monitors.
2 professional lcds and to cheap lcds.
Cheap lcds don't show all the colors if they are bright showing only white almost. So I had to darken all the colors a little to make the forum more pleasant for reading on such monitors.
Now there are older CRT monitors that are too dark - i didn't check the design on those.
So if you think that the site is too dark and the text is not easy readable on your monitor please let me know, and I will think how to solve the problem.

colors are fine when its too many!
as the most said about the logo, i think u can make it better.
