Looking at Hoildaying in Dubai next year. Is it good? May 15, 2008
Hi my name is Tom, i'm 19 and I live in the UK.

Here Dubai is seen as pure luxury what with the Burj and the new upcoming amazing places there. often reffered to as the Monaco of the middle east.

I have one or two questions for you all as ive been reading around the forum and some poeple dont seem to love Dubai all that much haha.

so... Me and my girlfriend are looking at going to Dubai next year, possibly end of May for two weeks, my first questions are is 2 weeks too long? and will May be so hot that the beach is a no no. We really want to relax on the beach but ive heard it can be too hot for this?

My Girlfriend went to Dubai 2 years ago and she loved it! only went for a week and stayed in the meridian hotel which is too expensive for us this time.

We want to stay on Jemirah beach as we have heard this is the best part of town and near to the beach that is quite important to us both. Is jermirah beach desirable to stay near? We are looking at staying at the Habtoor Grande hotel, some reviews are fantastic ive found, some - a small proportion arn't so great.

We are also keen on going and visiting towns and markets in Dubai shopping and seeing the local way of life. Are the local markets good or are they cheap and tacky selling fake items. I have also heard that gold is very cheap in dubai?

Sorry for the HUUUGE post but im trying to get a feel for the place and i thought you lot here where some of you live in dubai would be best to ask.

Thanks for reading!

Tom

the Meridian is the cheapest hotel in the beach area, if you think thats too expensive then the Habtoor wil be out.

The weather is late 30's early 40's in May so no problems about the weather.

Hi Tom,
The weather in May is very nice. The Habtoor is an excellent hotel, Jumierah beach is the place to go but make sure you stick to the marina area unless you dont mind perves taking pictures of your gf with their cell phones :). You may be dissapointed if you are looking for a cultural trip. The markets are kind of cheesy not many real authentic crafts. There is lots of other fun stuff to do though, definitely worth the trip, if you've got some cash to spend you should have plenty of stuff to do for two weeks. There are some fantastic places to eat and shop, dune bashing, quad biking, scuba diving, Kite Boarding, etc.
Have fun!

Well actually I would say the weather currently sucks. It's getting quite hot and humid right now but it will get much worse the longer you wait. I believe a good time to visit would be early April or end of March.
