My cousin has finished her engineering degree in india and she wants to pursue her higher studies in management here in UAE. is it worthy to study here? i am not sure about the education standard here, and i asked her to visit the knowledge village site!!! do they need IELTS certificate for admissions? or do they have any entrance exams?

Please help - EJ i think u r a univ. student. any advices?

Sp Jain and Xlri have their management progs in Dubai. Sp jain is conductin an open session on dec 14'th at 4 pts sheraton..Check it out..can be informative..There is Univ of wollongong in duabi..have'nt got a gud feedback abt it regardin placements..AUS and AUD are teh best bet..if u can afford it...GMAT is required for all tehse courses..I'm also lookin pursue posty graduation in management..

hey mayflower, yes I am an university student.
where has your cousin got her degree in engineering from? As far as I know, only very few universities in India are off good standards. therefore entrance in good university might require an exam. (simply because her college might not be recognized)

For management I would recommend three universities. AUS, AUD and UOWD. education standards of these three are pretty good. Obviously, if your coming from a country like Australia, Canada, then comparatively not… but otherwise studying here would not be much of a bad choice for her.
These universities are a bit expensive & way too expensive if your coming from india but worth it - i think.
UOWD also offers an Australian degree at the end of the course.
There are other new universities like Middlesex (UK), European University of Brussels etc in the Knowledge. v .. but I wouldn’t recommend to go for it.

SP jain is monetarily cheap but is Indian and I have no clue about their standards. My point is, if she has an opportunity to go for better recognized degree's.. she should go for it.

um well exams depend on which one you choose to join… and they are pretty simple. Some colleges like London school of economics provide the material to study.

IELTS certificate is not a visa requirement but is only required for students who have not done their studies in ‘English, or else its not required.

we heard apart from Mahe and wollagong university all other colleges need work experience for MBA admission which she doesn't have! and what about MIB and MQM programs offered by Wollagong univ? are they good and recognized? do they have scope? is IELTS required for this? hwo is the standard of MAHE university?

can she come here on student visa? and if so can she take up a part time job with a student visa?

sorry for too many questions - and hey r u a undergraduate or postgraduate student?

also we see in the website of Wollagong univ. that if we get admission in January we have to pay 10000 dms more than if we get admission in september? why is it so?

Normal uni calender is concurrent with the year, ie first semester is first half of the year and second semester in second half. Admission into first half always has a higher demand and seems they're trying to get some extra dosh for it here. In Australia they aren't allowed to charge you more just because of the time of admission.

Well don’t know about MAHE, but UOWD does require 4 years of working experience for admissions in MBA!
But, if your cousin has no work experience, she can then enroll for MIB. The difference in MIB & MQM consist of 8 subjects where as MBA's of 12 subjects.
All the degree's offered by UOWD are recognized and yes, there is no entrance test there, admissions are based on previous grades. Your cousin can apply for a student visa anytime but student's visa only for students enrolling in full time programs of study, and students on UOWD visa sponsorship cannot do a full time job. Although NOC can be obtained for part times.
Again, IELTS would only be required if the student has completed studies in other language then English.
Your cousin would need to get her certificates stamped by the Ministry of education in India and in Dubai

MAHE is pretty popular among the Indian community.. cant comment on the standards.. no idea

Oh, the fee’s remain the same no matter which semester you join. You don’t have to pay no ‘10000 dhs’ more

its tough time for her to decide on the college.
even SP Jain has a 1-year program (partly in dubai and partly in singapore) where they dont need work experience. and SP Jain in India has come in the top 10 list of business schools. so finally she is confused btn. sp jain and wollagong. even iam not very much convinced abt mahe.

I think , one day I've to go to this KV and collect prospectus of all the colleges and pass it on to her. my office is so nearby that place, only becos of the construction, it's taking more time to reach there.

are all the colleges only inside KV? is there any stand alone campuses apart from the ones in KV? how abt. american college in sharjah?

oh, its so so difficult to decide this!!! is there any forum for college students in dubai?

Sp jain 50 k AED..

Teh quality of edu at sp jain is really gud..It can get u skills to succeed in a cut throat environment..especially if u plan to start a business venture of ur own..

But teh thin is in spajain u r eventually awarded a Post graduate diploma..and not Master's degree..this is because Sp jain is an independent B School..tehy broke off tehir ties with Delhi university to gain more freedom with courses n curiculumn..

So tehre can be probs in gettin a placement in dubai..cos teh way i see it teh UAE job market wud prefer a degree..But once u get placed..its a diff story al together..

I did have a discussion with some of my friends in Uowd..tehre were not happy with teh course..

ahh I know how it is! this is a thorny phase of life!
forgot to mention about British university LOL ..its only for post graduates!

British University in Dubai, the last time I checked only offers Masters in Project Mgmt. Pretty good university, with good business/corp contacts; but the tution fees is a bit on the high side - around 80K.

As for UOWD, the post-grad degrees are great. Professors know what they are talking about, and are knowledgeable. The only downside is, the UOWD career dept is lagging.

If you have no qualms about the piece of paper, you would receive after graduating - be it a degree or a diploma - then I would suggest you pay SP Jain, Dubai a visit. Keep in mind though, a degree and a diploma makes a lot of difference with respect to the Gulf job market.

Saw this now, but decided to put in my two fils worth.

I have just joined UOWD for Masters in International Business. My first choice was to do an MBA, but I dont have the 4 years mandatory work ex. MIB is almost as good as an MBA these days, this is what I have researched and found out. The fee for ALL courses in UOWD for the Spring session(Starting Jan 2006) is higher than what it was in 2005..for MIB, it jumped from around 38,000 in 2005 to 44,000 now. However, this should be consistent for the full year in 2006.

As mentioned, Indian universities here have their dubious standards, though they might enjoy well deserved wide recognition back in India. The reason for their doubtful standards here is that the entry requirements are relaxed, obviously to attract the students with the money but lesser brains!

From what I have gathered about your fresh graduate cousin, the MIB in UOWD sounds a good option if he or she plans to continue studies without working.

i dont quite agree with you....if you have a diploma from a good institute it always is considered better than a degree....i myself have a diploma in business management and i got better post and better salary than degree holders from UK and UAE institutes...

your right.. UOWD increases its fee every year for all its courses. The late you join, the more you have to pay..
