Two Quick Things--mobile Phones And Free Internet

i'll be in dubai for the net couple of months, and had two quick questions--

1) i'll need to purchase a mobile, complete with a dubai number. where's a good place to find a basic phone with a calling plan?

2) are the free wifi hotspots in the city? are there cafes with free access?

You can go to somewhere like Carrefore and buy a SIM card and mobile.

You just need to take a passport copy and copy of the visa.

There are internet hotspots, but very few are 'free'.
