Were can I go and buy sky tv or something that resembles a decent tv package??
there must be one.
I don't want uk nova etc.
I WANT MY GORDON RAMSEY FIX.
If I have to watch city7/Dubai one any longer I will throw that tv over the balcony.

you can now watch any BBC progs for free using the new iplayer service

other oprtions if you want a UK Sky package is via a "slingbox". Use the search function in the forum to read up on this. Concord uses it via the states, but you can hook up a slingbox to a Sky decoder box in the UK also. If you have family in the UK with

a/ a sky package

and

b/ a broadband connection

you can watch a fully sky service via your laptop. Basically if a friend or family member back in the UK would on your behalf have a "multi room package" installed at their house then you can receive a the same Sky package in Dubai.

(the multi room package costs £75 installation and an extra £10 month for the service, so for £200 year you can have SKY incl sports and movies for cheap.

no mate you can't get sky via a dish because no dish in the ME can focus on the european satellites. Its all to do with the position of them etc. Its not the technology its purely the position of the satellites in relation to the countries they serve.

so how do hotels get sky news/skysports news etc?

hotels only receive Sky news via Showtime/Orbit etc, no hotel has sky sports mate, take my word for it, we have stayed in most of them

you receive Sky news because that particular channel is transmitted to the satellites that serve the ME and Far E. It is also a free to air channel from any satellite that transmits it.

You are not picking it up from the European Sats mate.

so free to air is similar to free view?

I have european free channels... from hotbird ...not sure if thats euro sat..

Hotbird does not transmit Sky, its the Astra Sats.

Geeza, you can only get the Brit channels that Du choose and supply with their packages like Sky News, BBC, Granada Plus, UKTV, Nat Geo, Discovery etc. This is because the operators like showtime/orbit etc purchase those channels from Sky or directly from the broadcasters.

The channels are transmitted on the bird, you just need the appropriate decryption to get them.

Yeah planning to have smart card + Vaccess..to decrypt some channels..
Need to ask some ppl in Deira about this.....

Gezz....no UK channels yet...just mainland Europe..will advise after consulting satellite techies in Deira.....
