Although you have a point, the argument is if it is a pet (and by large extend dog is domesticated, loyal, most family has one as pet and cute) then you dont eat it.

hmm no. The point is.. although one may feel odd that someone else is eating dog..there's no reason to condemn it..or feel bad about them who eat it. For example.. Indians, especially Hindu's consider cow /buffalo to be a sacred animal ( as in worthy of respect, not the religious stuff ) coz cows/buffalos live a 'giving life'.. Do u mean to say that coz they are domesticated and thousands of rural Indian familes've cows/buffalos and many of them actually lead a life from the money they make from milk and dung .. none actually eat it's meat ?

For the love of food. I can drive you. My car can fit in 4 more people. And the boot can probably take another 2 if you dont mind swatting!

Lucifer: Please define 'Giving'. If that is the case, then it is possible to skew the argument and say that dogs lead a giving life too. Dogs give you comfort, provide you with happiness and love. They 'give' that freely.
So under the same line of thought, you should not eat dogs as well.

I know that alot of Indians do not eat beef, but will they eat dogs?

Take a packed lunch and something to read. Also remember to pack plenty of water... dehydration is a killer.

Inform a friend where you are going, and when you are expected back. Make sure your phone is fully charged.

If possible, get an EPIRB - you never know when they will come in handy.

Lucifer: There is nothing wrong with eating a dog or croc or bat or whatever as such. I think the issue here for me is the dog is seen as a pet or cute and its not nice to eat something cute (ok, pretty bad argument). There could be worse things to eat

Ha ha ha!! The German shep probably ate grass because he ate something bad before and grass makes you puke... works on kids too... and before anyone asks, no I did not feed the child grass.

Daikoku is one of the best for Teppan, Sakura is also another favourite, not the one in Crown plaza, but the one in East Tamaki. There is a funky little Japanese place opposite Sakura as well which the name escapes me, but it is so fantastic. I miss Auckland asian food... especially T-mart and Tofu shop. Nothing like it here...

Ahhh brings back fond memories. I used to goto TMart for the crushed ice. Try eating it during winter. Its like brain freeze all over only this one lasts longer !!

I tried the sashimi in that place near irish village and it wasn't fresh anymore. That's why I don't trust conveyor-belt sushi.. you'll never know how long it has been going around on there.

The food was ok although I have a suspicion one of my friends did not enjoy her food but was too polite to say so (I think). I always ignore the "decor' at a restaurant as food should take precedence but at this place the sitting area for other than teppan stuff was an after thought. Essentially a few tables placed in the hallway with stadium lighting...

Did I mentioned, no food was left on the places - and enjoyed the company.

Then we discussed Filipino food, what is it? I tried some chicken noodle thing once, and some 'adobo" and one of those drinks with crushed ice, sugar (lots), coloring and jello. But beyond that...

I wasnt that impressed with Benihana too. The sitting position (away from the teppan station) is just odd. Who wants to go to a 5-star outlet (so I was told) and eat in a corridor facing an entrance? Truely perculiar! Didnt enjoyed myself that much, plus I was restricted from ordering too much.
Do not rate the food and embience but the company saved the day!

The Teppan is awesome though... perhaps we should do it one night and do Teppan.

Sushi we could have done Tokyo On The Rocks... and nipped next door for some Philipino food afterwards - plus they do Shabu Shabu.

There are 2 Tokyo on the Rocks. 1) In Garhoud, in the row of shops near the Irish Village. Suggest you take a Thai massage next door at Bliss before adjourning to the restaurant This outlet do not do shabu shabu though. The number is +971 4 286 8060 2) Off Al Wasl road, near Iranian Hospital next to a supermarket (forgot the name!). Suggest you call the number above to ask for direction for thier Al Wasl branch. This outlet is adjoining to the shabu shabu restaurant. Apart from shabu shabu (not Japanese style though) more like hot pot chinese style, they also have Thai and Filipino food. Cant vouch for them as I have not tried them.

If they are half as good as Daikoku, then I will die happy

is kiku normally packed? do you have to call in a reservation?
