•Served as primary contact and project manager for selected CalPERS Focus List companies, and met frequently with companies’ CEOs and other executive members. Negotiated with company executives on courses of action.
•Oversaw and monitored external investment managers, which includes performance, style, guideline, and operational issues. Responsible for making “watchlist,” “probation” and termination recommendations on individual managers to the Portfolio Manager (PM) and Senior Principal Investment Officer (SPIO). Responsible for working with individual managers to develop plans of action to address problem areas. When manager contract terminations occur, responsible for developing a plan for the disposition of the managers’ assets.
•Responsible for recruiting and screening external investment managers for consideration by the CalPERS Investment Committee/Board. Duties included: developing requests for proposals (RFPs); responding to written questions about RFPs; analyzing and scoring proposals, as well as coordinating the timely and accurate analysis by other Investment Office staff and/or outside consultants; providing hiring recommendations to the PM or SPIO. When new managers are hired, duties include fee, benchmark, guidelines and contract language negotiations.
Investment Officer II - Corporate Governance Unit:
•Prepared and updated a variety of financial reports on various aspects of the Program. Responded to requests for special investment reports from Board members, the Legislature, executive staff and outside parties; Prepared items to be presented to the Board Investment Committee each month.
•Worked with CalPERS' master custodian and outside pension consultants to correct and update accounting and investment holdings and performance information. Responsible for the accuracy and maintenance of custom benchmarks, composites, fund listings and database functionality.
•Worked closely with CalPERS' Legal and Contract Management staff to coordinate the preparation of contracts and amendments, requests for proposals (RFPs), and other investment related documents.
•Participated in the International Investment Manager Search; created a complex search/solicitation database.
