Kiss My...

Kiss my... Oct 29, 2007
Have just read the story in Gulf News. Un-friggin-believable.

For those of you who don't know, some guy is in court facing a possible jail sentence/deportation(?) because of a sticker on his car windshield.

And yes, the sticker read 'Kiss My ...'

It seems some holier than thou jobsworth type objected to it and requested the driver remove it (he didn't). What a total baby.

Granted, the guy shouldn't have put the sticker up in the first place. And definitely, he should have removed it after being asked.

But I think you know the point I'm making. It's the same old Dubai shit,
drives you fcuk in crazy. Surely, surely there are more important things to be prosecuting people over!

Of all the crimes being committed in this city right here, right now - does this guy really deserve to be in the dock?

Place drives me mad...

I have to agree with Bleakus here .. wherever you go around the world you are expected to respect the local customs and culture. This guy didn't .. yes it might be overkill to prosecute him.. but somehow he is in that situation. I don't feel bad for him !

Nah Bleaks, not at all!

Most of my posts have been about boxing, kali, Satwa and 'what people do on the weekend'. Not a complaint in sight...

Good question actually.

The paper report put just that - dot. dot. dot . So that's how I took it!

Of course, if the offending word were printed out, then I take my rant back. That's clear breach of law.

But I can imagine the same scenario with just the dots, ie some bloke getting upset over a half-finished sentence. Which, if it were the case, means he is just being an arse himself...

Had a friend of mine in AD some years ago, had his brand new BMW taken away by the Police for a similar bumper sticker, he just about managed to get his car back and dodge deportation after approx. 3 weeks of intense negotiation.

Perhaps he should have got a "Pouge Mahone" sticker instead.

A classic court case a few weeks back was a guy who's boss kicked him in the balls so hard that he needed one surically removed got fined 1000 dirhams for using coarse language.

I agree with gtmash. You gotta live by the rules.

He should have just agreed to take the bloody sticker off... but to save pride he could then offer to take part in a boxing match with the guy. That is only if the guy wants to of course, and you know a legit place with a boxing ring, referee etc. Notice how I chose my words carefully so that it didn't sound like a threat? That way everyone leaves the confontation happy, and if in the unlikely event that the guy does agree to a boxing match, you get to punch the living crap out of him. Bonus

I cant imagine having such a sticker on my car, who would want to have it on his/her car?? It looks cheap anyways, he should have removed it, I agree it shouldnt go to court and he shouldnt get deported, an easy solution was for the police to impound his car or give him a fine, then he would have taken it off..

Maybe they took it to court and made a big issue out of it because they want other people to know that its wrong, maybe its not in court but they said it was to aware people about the seriousness of this issue..

Is Dubai culture or law really "strict" on these matters?

A very good tip for those coming to Dubai (like me).

You can get away with a lot of things here. Just don't push your luck.

And yes, the sticker obviously said ass on it, otherwise Gulf News would be shut down too for printing half the sentence.

Sorry, guys, but whatever the Laws here, there's GOT to be a sensible course of action on this ! Prosecution for using the word b u m is just plain daft. ESPECAILLY when you consider some of the awful stuff that is going on in Dubai at the moment - murders, rapings, extortion, drugs etcetc.

Surely THAT should be taking up the Courts time, rather than some inane car bumper sticker ?

Or, is it just coz that's easy............?

The laws are not that different to anywhere else in the world.

You just need to remember that when you cross paths with an ass hole like this, he would prefer that you Kiss HIS Ass,
not the other way around.

I was told last week of a guy who had rudely insulted a local driver with the phrase "towel-headed idiot". When the Cops were called [as the local guy was quite rightly furious with the insult] it was changed to "two-legged idiot" !

My mate was stood by watching the whole incident and said that the Cops were trying to keep a straight face.

I certainly don't advocate this kind of behaviour [before anyone decides to flame me for this] but I would advise caution to anyone who lets fly with such a pointed insults in public. It could end up with deportation.

Having said that, [back to the original post], why would anyone want to put on such a car sticker in the first place ? It's BOUND to cause controversy ! Doh !

Calling someone a 'towel-headed idiot' is racist. That's bang out of order.
And I certainly don't have any sympathy for someone like that.

I agree, the sticker is/was totally naff and more to the point, against the law. I am not suprised that the bloke ended up in court, and a fine would be very appropriate.

But to repeat, I just think the possibility of a jail sentence and/or deportation is going way too far. If only, if only that kind of punishment was handed out (consistently) to other, far more serious offenders!

Maybe the sicker said kiss my (pic of an a$$), that is really bad and should go to court..

But if it was just words on the car, why would the other person read it if he was not interested..

Just let it go, its not harmful, unless they were racing and the person who lost the race saw that sticker and got upset, then decided to do something about it, that makes sense

Heh, without wanting to drag this topic out too much, I would say that defining what is - and what isn't - lewd in Dubai is quite tricky!

The other day I saw this woman in the Burjuman. Quite young, obviously quite loaded too, loads of designer bags in her hands. Anyway, she must have been going for the bling look but she was putting it on quite 'streetz' at the same time. Her T-shirt said 'Gangbang'. I don't think she was talking about LA street gangs...

Is that against the law? Does that T-shirt - or the word on it - advertise a lewd act? I dunno, beats me! What about the little stickers you see on 4x4s with the little kid poking his ar$e out? Or the trendy jogging bottoms (for girls) saying 'juicy', or men's t-shirts saying 'porno' etc...

The definition of lewdness can - sometimes - be very arbitrary...

I've wonder about that in connection with the wrting on a wheel cover of a red jeep I've seen a couple of times on the way to work.

If i recall correctly, the wrting in huge letters used to say "Stay home and Play" - I think a reference to a computer game. This kid has painted over the P so that it reads "Stay home and lay". I was surprised to see it and thought: maybe things are being relaxed (or the authorities don't get it).

Come to think of it I haven't seen the car for a while...maybe he got deported without his 15 minutes of fame in the news..

What you're seeing are people who are going unreported. If you called 999 on them, they'd have their day in court too. The filipino guy wasn't pulled over by the cops or caught at Tasjeel. He was reported by another guy.

Pathetic. How about arabs raising the middle finger in public in front of the non-arab ladies? Well, Filipinos will not report them to the police, we'll most likely shrug it off and move on.

There are more acts of explicit lewdness in public that the conservative people should be vigilant about.

Rape cases are still pending and unsolved. Maids are being rape by employers, there's no act of lewdness in public there since they were raped inside the employer's house. I wonder why this kind of case didn't get much publicity. Oh silly me, it is not done in public and no sticker involved.
