Might be a bit old, but I just read about it, sounds interesting :)

Jumeirah Open Beach will soon host top class recreational facilities

The ongoing construction work at Jumeirah Open Beach may be a nuisance to beach-goers, but it aims to turn the beach into a world class recreational facility.

New features, to be completed by next March, will include a five-star restaurant, a beach bazaar, a food court, an amphitheatre, a skating park and a pool for children.

There will be a jogging track along the 1.2 km stretch of the beach between the northern breakwater beside Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa and the T-shaped breakwater near the Police Rescue Unit.

Premier destination

Other facilities will include attractive new lifeguard towers, covered changing rooms with locker facilities, and walkways. Water sports activities will be provided.

The aim of the Dh100 million development is to enhance Dubai's tourist appeal as a premier beach resort destination.

"The proposed development is aimed at offering global best standards for beach-goers," said Khalid Zahed, Head of the Municipality's Coastal Management Section.

Work began in March and is more than 50 per cent complete, Zahed added.

One of the major attractions will be a five star restaurant at the edge of the breakwater.

In addition, Zahed said, "We are receiving inquiries from a lot of investors interested in setting up shopping and entertainment facilities at the open beach."

Setting up entertainment and shopping facilities along the beach would not disturb beach-goers or make the area congested, Zahed said.

"The entertainment and shopping facilities will be at least 50 metres away from the beach and have been designed to avoid any disturbance to beach users," he said.

Zahed said Dubai is committed to its reputation as one of the safest tourist destinations in the world and the municipality wants to ensure that visitors using its beaches experience world-class recreational facilities with international safety standards.

They should also make additional parking space.... I went once on a Friday towards the end of my trip in early October when the weather first started to improve and couldn't find a spot.... Had to walk for 15 mins in the heat. Not fun! :x
