Hiring a Lawyer in Dubai Oct 02, 2007
Hello everyone,

I lived in Sharjah and forgot to pay a small amount of money (350dhs-500dhs) to a few Indian shops. Anyway, im coming back and don't want to be arrested at the airport.

Therefore, I have hired a lawyer who has agreed to do a search if there has been an arrest order issued against my name at any of the entry/exit points throughout the country, this will cost me about $800.00 my lawyer also wants my passport copy, what do you guys think ? is it possible for local law firms to search for an arrest order ? + I hope my passport copy doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Can someone open office accounts, bank accounts, mobile phone accounts, loans in the U.A.E with just your passport photocopy?

I havent heard of this lawfirm before, it's called Trench Law they have an office on Khalid bin waleed street in Dubai.

What do you guys think? by the way once im there I will pay back the money I owe to the small stores, it's really a small amount, about 350 dirhams.

P.S. I can't believe it but it makes me wonder if someone who commited murder or worse can simply hire a lawyer and conduct an search to see if they have any cases against them and therefore simply not enter the country.

Trench Law is an established Law firm.

Let's hope you do end up paying back the money you owe to the shopkeepers in Sharjah.

We all wait with baited breath the outcome of this saga I am sure

Spending 800 dollars to avoid 300 dirhams?

Man you'll be fine and you seem overtly paranoid about this.

Perhaps there's more to this than simply owing a shopkeeper money? If not, don't sweat it. If they do for some reason detain you when you arrive, simply paying the arrears will see you fine.

I agree with Ian. It is better to take the tiny risk and come here anyway rather than blow $800. The laws here are so bendable that you'll probably wriggle out of this "small" issue easily if there is a case against you.

Let him spend the $800 (for nothing really). Advice was already given to this cat but he won't heed it.

You guys,

Everytime I hear about someone going to jail for months at a time and for very very minor things (bought the wrong mobile phone) had legal prescription drugs in her/his system, that's why im paranoid as hell as to coming, I admit most probably I won't face any legal action but still just imagine the painstaking flight from U.S.A to Dubai not knowing if I will make it out of the airport a free man.

So trench law firm is legitimate right ? because I don't want my passport photocopy to fall into the wrong hands, thanks a lot and I will keep everyone posted and pay the stupid amound of money I owe. I know this is getting really pathetic

Don't you know anyone who can go to those stores and pay those amounts for you and find out if those people have reported this to the police?
I really think it is outrageous to pay 800$ to avoid 300 Dh.

This is not the first time project3030 has posted regarding this, it was even offered by some members to help, he wants to spin a yarn or pay a lawyer, let him go ahead.

Careful, Concord knows a thing or two about law, he might sue you for plagiarising his post.
