Just landed/moved to Dubai, suggestions to keep me busy? Sep 21, 2007
Well touched down today. Came here on a corporate relocation from my organizations' US HQ to our Middle East HQ. Start on Sunday though so I'm currently putting around the hotel shaking the flight off.

I'm guessing things are a bit slow during the day right now during ramadan but any suggestions on places to hit up later in the day? Possibly somewhere with a variety of restaurants or anywhere else that would be a hub of activity during ramadan evenings. I'm staying on SZR close to the the Burj site for the next few weeks so I'm assuming that's somewhat central as far as transportation goes (though I could be totally wrong here).

unfortunately most ex pat type eating/drinking places are quiet at the moment, no music is allowed in bars or clubs until ramadan is over.

If you are near the Burj then you are close to the MOE and has a good bar called Apres, the JBH has various bars, a good one there is the Dhow and Anchor.

If you mean the Burj as in construction, then the Al Marooj complex is very near by and has a good range of bars ie Double Deckers as are the hotels on the ops side of the SZR, the Fairmont Crowne Plaza and the other side are the Emirates Towers.

Hope this helps, i am sure others wil suggest other places to mingle

Welcome to Dubai hcaleman!

I'm staying in Deira. Try Emirates Towers in Sheik Zayed Road. They have a variety of restaurants and bars for the evening. Harry Ghato's japanese resto is something I would highly recommend.

Yeah, plenty of bars along SZR where I'm staying. I'm feeling the effects of last night currently. ugh.

There's a couple of new hotels in Downtown Burj Dubai area with at least one good bar. Madinat Jumeirah is a bit further away but worth a look with bars and restaurants and electric gondolas. At the other end of the scale, try some chilli chicken at Ravi's in Satwa (you'll get change from 10 dhs) and walk up and down Al Diyafah street one evening.

Otherwise here's a longer list of suggestions - bored in Dubai?

Try the Barasti Bar at Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, this place is back to it's usual packed self now the weather has started to settle. You have a total mixture of people in this place and great place to socialise. Also left bank at the Madinat popular western bar!
