Normally people tend to focus on the positive when you ask about something they are doing.
Now what I want to hear is the negative points about living in Dubai.
DOn't hold back...

Not being able to pop into a regular off licence

the fact that public transport is a pain and that you can't get a driving license if you don't have a passport from an "approved" list of countries....

the heat

Dubai has no bad points.

Can I get a government job now?

Sure you can, you just have to take lessons and a test.

eight months of summer, traffic, and discrimination.

1. Very expensive accommodation
2. Some nasty people with full of craps and tricks (some real estate agents, some shop staffs, etc)
3. Very hot in months
4. Bad city plan

1) accomodation
2) traffic
3) weather
4) lots of hypocrites..

The question was only "what do you dislike". There could be possible that the "likes" keep us here to compensate the "dislikes". For example, better money. So the exact phrase would be "even though I dislike Dubai because of .... but I'm staying because ... ".

If one says he/she likes 100% Dubai and no dislike AT ALL, then he/she's a faker. Every place has plus and minus.

even tho i dislike dubai because of:
arrogant needles
bad drivers
lack of manners towards 'labourers'

i am staying because:
more money
more sunny,
better lifestyle,
treated better here by most people, and customer service is great (as long as u dont let them BS you)

it is an 'in door' mall-bound environment

I would almost say the samething except in 2;

1. Arrogant needles who lack manners towards 'labourers"

I dislike the fact that I am away from my country (homesick!) and it is very difficult for me to get along with/cannot understand the ways the majority of peoples here- though I didn't have this kind of problem anywhere else in the world I've been to (namely Japan, UK, US, other parts of SE Asia).. hmm...

One more to add what I dislike about Dubai.
Often many people are bragging (being arrogant). Just because they have lots of money to afford this and that. Just because they can afford to buy the most expensive car or the biggest SUV. Just because they are X race (I'm not saying what, but you can find out yourself, and that's the truth).

I don't like the fact that you have to pay a year's extortionate rent up front, so that if you come to Dubai and loathe the place, you're trapped and can't leave. The fact that you can't change your job within the first year just makes this worse.

Sorry Scarlet, I don't like Dubai, I regret coming here enormously and believe me I'd leave tomorrow if I could, but like a lot of other people I'm trapped here and have no choice but to count down the months until I can get out.

It feels very "unreal" meaning fake. It lacks culture in some parts and has alot of people living here that live 'the life' because they cant do so at home. we came here to experience some change and a base to do some travelling, and earn some money in between. its not all bad it definently has good points if you look for them. But it will never be home. We will benefit from the experience and make us appreciate what we have at home.

At this moment in time..... being a newbie..... I LOVE Dubai!

Ive heard so many women complain since being here so it must be.....

I dislike the long drive upto 'barracuda' beach resort every week...and the resulting damage to my vehicle suspension.

Boris2007, read a post under "general chat" titled "Dubai?!?!?".
All points described there are very true. And they are not all negative points about living in Dubai.
I cannot understand why the Dubai "lovers" cannot see the reality. Even if they love the place, they should also see that some things (many) are wrong, a hassle, bad planned, partly done and never finished, "corrupted", done with no clear sense (many of the road planning, like that divider on SZRoad by interchange 1, which does not make any sense, it does not have any purpose, makes traffic worse and due to it the emergency shoulder is gone), there is discrimination, etc.....
If you are unable to take positive criticism, you will never learn and improve, and it looks very arrogant, and I am sorry to say, that not all is perfect here and you all should listen to some positive criticism and maybe realize things and change them.

i forgot to include topless women in my list, shows that ive been here too long now. to forget that, jeez.
and if u like, my place gets the sun for most the day........
