Different Rulings For Different Nationalities? Aug 29, 2007
I know we have discussed this before.

I wanted to know how the others who live here feel about the sentences carried out in these two cases? Fair and 'equal', you think?

Perhaps one can't really compare both the cases, and it all depends on perspective.

A music teacher has had his imprisonment reduced and will spend three years in jail instead of five for molesting his 15-year-old pupil while giving her a guitar lesson.

Two men have been jailed for kidnapping a female visitor in Dubai and gang-raping her in Umm Al Quwain, ruled a court.

They were also charged with luring the girl into their car, threatening to kill her, beating her and consuming liquor. E.A. was also charged with stealing N.S.'s mobile phone.

Oh, these men got five years for their crimes.

Somehow... it seems that there are different rulings for different nationalities? Anyone else share that opinion?

Even more of the same.... Aug 30, 2007
Dubai: A court has sentenced a 19-year-old girl to one year in jail for possessing and trafficking 0.92 grams of hashish and acquitted her compatriot of the same charge for uncorroborated evidence.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the Emirati girl, F.E., and cleared her 20-year-old compatriot student, A.H., of illegally possessing and promoting hashish, as charged by the Public Prosecution.

I could have sworn that the sentence was four years, for even smoking the stuff. I wonder why she gets only one year?

Dubai: A young man will spend three years behind prison bars for impersonating a policeman, kidnapping a Filipina housemaid and raping her, ruled a court.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 21-year-old national, K.J., although he pleaded innocent

Three years only... for rape? :o

I wonder if we have any legal experts on the forum, who could perhaps shed some light?
