A reliable true 4x4 for 35k is a 2000-2001 Nissan Pathfinder.

Pajeros and Prados are also reliable and true 4x4s, but for that price you have to go older.

Outlander and RAV4 are reliable, but not true 4x4. Freelander is a joke in reliability.

Once I studied similar question and that time they suggested me Nissan Patrol (short version).

Nah those aren't proper 4x4's, they're yuppie about town cars, for wannabe off roaders.

Short wheel base Pajero would be very good, reliable, good on and off road. However as someone else said you'd have to go for an older model, the 2000 model averages a 40,000 resale. Automatics are like gold dust, most manual transmission available.

'03 and '04 are same. Reliable, but remember to try the back seat. Even a Civic has more space in the back.

Is this problem of lack of space for back seats is with all 2003-04 Pathfinder models or some specific model?

All. The back is cramped for a 4x4.
