Hi all,

I will be working in Dubai Festival City and my wife will be working in Media City area. We are looking for a nice area that works as a compromise so neither of us has to fight traffic. How accommodating we are?!?!?

Any clues an what areas to look?

What's your budget per year and how many bedrooms? You need to be specific.

between 100k and 120k.

looking for 2 bedrooms.

I was going to suggest the Marina or the Greens but for that amount you will only get a 1 bedroom.

The new area of 'Downtown Burj Dubai', is bang in the middle of your and your wifes work, now only 15 mins to both with the help of Salik and business bay bridge. You might be able to get a one bed for 120, bargain hard there are loads of empty apartments here, landlords are desperate to get them rented, the advertised prices are high, but I know a few people that have achieved a good deal through negotiation.

Dubizzle is painfully slow from this side of the world. It takes a couple of minutes to load pages, even on DSL.

I stayed at the Greens while on a visit. It was in one of the serviced apartments. Small, but really well kept. It seemed quite a fight in traffic to get to DFC. Maybe I left at a bad time.

Many of my co-workers had suggested the Burj Dubai area. What should I realistically expect to pay if I am looking for a 2 bedroom place here? What is the scene like there?

Any thoughts on "Old Town"?

Take a look at International City too, although 2-bds are rare there. Within your budget though. 20 minutes from both places. I've done it in less.

Lots of new apartment buildings at Al Barsha near Mall of the Emirates, you should get a 2 bed for this price.

I have been living in Downtown Burj Dubai since November, and it is really starting to come together now, a couple of Spinneys stores are open, along with a few other shops. Two hotels are open and another is opening by the end of the month. Several restaurants by the lake are nearly finsihed and will be open within a month.There is a real sense of community here and once the rest of the construction is completed, I really feel that it will be a great area to live.

I overlook the Burj Tower and lakes and everyone that comes here thinks it is one of the best areas of Dubai to live as it is so central and the views - well they speak for themselves!

A friend of mine just signed a lease on a two bed in Yansoon (old town) for 120k, the owners were so desperate to rent as they are mortgaged to the hilt. Believe me, this is one of many - bargain hard you will find something.

What I'm saying is that don't be fooled with the agents that you'll have to pay higher rent (or sale price if you buy) because it has better view (for now). Take a look also the plan of that area, because before a blink of your eyes, new buildings will come in front of your window

Oh I'm very aware of that which is why we bought to look directly onto the lakes and the Burj and unless they knock the Burj (or it falls down) down there is no space to put anything else in front of me - one of the few places in Dubai where that is guaranteed I think!
