In England it is possible to get a Bankers Draft. Its a cheque drawing on the banks funds rather than an account. The bank takes the funds from your account when issuing it.

Is there an equivalent in Dubai banking? when I called my bank (not one of the best) they were talking about a Demand Draft, which I dont think is the same.

It could be the same. I was sent money from here when I was in USA, using a "Draft."

I think it is more or less the same thing, it has to be paid for when it is issued from the Bank.

It's the same thing. It's called "demand" because its payable on demand when presented.

May be you need to ask them about "manager's cheque".
In this case the bank takes money from your account and issues manager's (bank's) cheque.
This way the receiver of the cheque will be 200% sure that the cheque will be paid.
