Congrats PK! Had the chance to work on this laptop a bit and it's definitely a good choice.

Anyone looking to buy a laptop nowadays should go for Core 2 Duo... MUCH more performant than Centrino Duo or any CPU by AMD.

P.S: Just a lil note. In case you want to format the H-D to install Win XP professional, IF you don't have the SP2 CD you will need to hook up a floppy drive to the laptop to load the SATA drivers for the H-D. This is ONLY if you have a Win XP CD w/o SP2.

Ok peeps,
here is my update !!
I got the laptop last week, worked on it for a week the laptop is super in terms of pecs, price and looks !! Yet I returned the laptop !! Why ? here is way cause it has a small defect !!
Ok as I was working on the laptop I noticed a low frequency sound coming from the laptop that fades away sometimes, yet comes back from time to time, got back to the shop the next day and they replaced it. Next day turned on the laptop and started using it, and oh sh!t it is the same sound again !! after eid I called HP people and asked them what's wrong and guess what, the technical guy said that it is a problem in this model yet it is not affecting the preformance !! problem my a$$ , the same day took the laptop to the shop told him the story and got a refund. I am really suprised that a big brand similar to HP would release such a so perfect product with such a problem which really was annoying to me. I can't imagine myself setting alone in a room working on a paper or something and I keep hearing the electrons poping inside the processor. One really bad experience with HP.

My advice is to go for an Apple Macbook. I have been a PC user for the last 15 years or so, but i got a Macbook laptop a few weeks ago and i am converted!

The design is very nice and OSX blows Windows XP out of the water.
Basically it just works, is easy to use and does not crash like windows

However, if you want to play the latest 3D games then go for a Windows based laptop with a good gfx card. The gfx card in the macbook is pants for 3D games

And that's necessarily bad? If with Windows comes all kinds of viruses, spyware etc., I don't mind having "less support" for it ;) In my view, Mac OS X is more user-friendly, more stable, more secure, than Windows (including Vista).

It's a common myth that Macs are just good for "graphics", in fact the underlying UNIX (BSD) of Mac OS X, makes a Mac a good choice for programmers, web developers, system administrators, and many more.

Just bought a HP Pavilion dv6312ea from Sharaf. decided against one of the little Bur Dubai shops for service backup.

Have already had to take it back 1 day after buying it because the casing is coming apart. They say it has to go to the distributor for it to be checked before they can replace it!

so much for paying full whack to get good service!! :x

One problem with them though....90% of software and everything out there is made for windows.....sooooo....the hell with MAC.

If i need ANY software....hardware.,...spare parts...blabla...theyre all made for windows....MAC is like...m...a 1976 classic car while windows is a toyota corrola used all over the world for pennies.

Sure, but no one needs to run 90% of all software out there, only a tiny fraction, and for much of that there are Mac versions or alternatives.

Parts, accessories, etc. is often made for Windows PCs that's true, but much of the pieces inside a Mac is the same as inside a Windows PC (same Core2Duo, same type RAM, same type HD, etc.), and with USB and Firewire you can expand pretty easily, etc.

Your analogy with the cars is wrong too. But I'm glad you're excited about a Corolla... I know many who would gladly take a (valuable) 1976 classic car over a Corolla any day ;)

I think, for most users a Mac running Mac OS X offers more stability, better security, a better user interface, higher-quality software, better looking and more reliable hardware, and more. And if you want to you can run Windows on it too, and Linux, and BSD, and pretty much any other x86 OS too.

Got HP compaq nx7300 after following an advise from computer wizzard. The unit is so professional looking, i like its black color. I am still familiarizing with Vista & Office 2007. Vista is pestering me though!

Hopefully, this can be my buddy at work. Still on the adjustment stage. I like being wireless hehehe...including wireless printer woo hoo!
