Has anyone Heard of a place for... Jun 30, 2007
has anyone heard of any place or organization like K9Friends for humanbeings in Dubai or UAE ? a patient/oldage Non profitable care home...

Met couple of them distressed and devoid of any living coz of the accidents that occurred during work., sadly they are illegal workers, one persons left hand n right leg was so badly hurt that one could almost see the bones.. :( Cant we do something for them? Dubai has loads of them, just that they arent publicised. The least the rich dubai/ uae Govt would do is to deport them?

Apparently "animals cannot speak for themselves" so they get more attention.

The Indian embassy seems to do a lot in sending workers home. Maybe they need to be alerted?

And how did u conclude about Indian Embassy? It wasnt Indians whom I met.. FYI its not Indian embassy sending worker home its the VISA agents who issue fake visas to poor people in India, Pakisthan and elsewhere and their counter parts who are resposible for this plight of the workers after squeezing out even the last drop of their money. Neither the UAE govt or the respective governments of those countries seem to be doing nothing.

It was appalling to see those people.. one man with his hand and leg badly injured informed that he had been to rani hospital but couldnt get the medicines prescribed as they were damn costly.. in his own words, where would they have money to buy medicines when they cant afford to eat. It seems his hand has to be amputated..

Is this situation for real??????

Of course something has to be done! :?

Were these people hurt during work in Dubai????

I was feeling playful today.... you've just brought me back down to earth with a bump!

Are there no drop in centres that are charity funded to care for such people in such circumstances.

I really am not informed enough to speak on such things, but it seems to me that Dubai is growing at such a rate that areas are being missed, ie community projects etc! Am I wrong????
Not in Dubai, so I really don't know the set up!

Surely something can be done. Often what happens is that lots is said about something but nothing is done.

For starters,

1. Someone here might know of a place where they could get help.
2. You could call the newspapers (or e-mail them) with the details of the situation.
3. Indifvidually some members may be able to help in some way (and will PM you, etc.).

Such problem is not unique to Dubai. It is perhaps more hidden than in other places and stories as the "Dubai Darlings" make the situation even worse.

Gtmash, it is not "apparently" I've never heard a dog speak!

I would suspect this thread might turn into dog/animals vs. human "debate" without anything being done at the end.

I didn't read all that, but I think you are confused about what I said. I said workers in trouble are usually helped by their embassies to get back home, and the Indian embassy seems to do a lot in this regard.

They speak Doganese.

I saw some workers at Rashid Hospital when I non-medically interned there. They were well-cared for in the ICU at least. I don't know what happens to them after they are out, but some charity organization like Red Crescent could be made to pitch in for medicine.

If any lawyers out here worked for free, or even cheap, they could force the fat-cat companies to pay for medical care.
