Public Relations Job in Tourismus - 7 languages ? May 16, 2007
Does anyone have useful advices?

I am a female German national and will recieve my MA Degree in Islamic Culture Studies end of this year.

I would love to work in the Emirates in the area of Tourism / Public Relations.

I speak (read and write) seven languages
and I have got very good communication skills. I know a lot about Islamic and Arabic Culture , not not just because of my studies but also because of many journeys to the region.

I am looking for a PR job in Tourism and Culture where I can make use of my knowledge of Arabic and Islamic Culture.

I would like to work for one of the following institutions:

Cultural Centre (Museum, Language Centre, Centre for cross cultural training)
Hotel
Tour Operator
State Authority for Tourism and Culture

Does anyone have an idea where to apply? I am thinking of flying to Dubai in September and look for a job there. What do you think?

And one more question: What salary can I expect?

I have work experience as Lecturer (German, English, French) and as Research Assistant at University (Literature Invetigation, Library), but not in Tourism so far.

I already got a job offer as Public Relations Representative:
( I can't take the job because I first have to finish my MA Thesis and can't start to work before december)

Package: accomdation (two-room appartment), health insurance, one
flight to Germany p.a. , 30 days off p.a., mobile phone (plus costs for calling), 400 Euro for renting or buying a car + 2000 Euro per month.

Is that ok for the start? Or should I ask for more?

What is the ideal job position to start with in my case? Is Public Relations Representative the right one?

I would be very glad for any idea, help or advice

Dear Jeevan,

thanks a lot for your nice reply.
Ok, I will be patient and wait..... Maybe you are right.....

About my profile: I know it's quite unusual and people might not know what to do with it - or how to react - here in Europe some people are almlost shocked if they hear "Islamic Culture Studies" - unfortunately!

Arabic people - whether from the Gulf region or not - I met showed a very positive reaction on the contrary!

I chose those studies because I was interested in learning more about arabic language, history and culture - and to understand this culture it is very important to know about religion as well - as it is a very important integrative part of arabic society and culture.

Tourism can lead to more tolerance and understanding because people can see with their own eyes....
but Tourism can also destroy culture and can even inforce intolerance and prejudices .... it depends on the form of tourism....

I do not want to work for a tour operator who concentrates on shopping tours, belly dance in the desert (which is no khalliji tradition at all but egyptian!) an the like..... but more on culture!

Whish you a nice day - or night (depends on when you are reading this)
