The Bastakia neighbourhood is one of the worth visiting historical places in Dubai. Includes over 50 houses, based on the Persian form of architecture known as "Badgir", later Arabised to "Barjeel".
The name Bastakia is named after a small town called Bastak, located in Persia between Fars and Hormoz regions. The neighbourhood was built & inhabited by Persian merchants who left Iran towards the other bank of the gulf in the year 1870 A.D. Those families have already left the neigbhourhood to new ones after the civil expansion, yet their grandchildren still gather in a small majles atleast once a week for socialising.
