Blackberry in the UAE - is it worth it? Mar 13, 2007
Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone uses Blackberry here in the UAE.

I work freelance and it's a nightmare to always be in the vicinity of a wireless connection for my laptop.

Is using Blackberry through Etisalat worth it here?

Just to make sure are you planning to use it connect your laptop to the internet i.e. use the BB as a modem or are you actually using the BB as a device itself for email and web?

Nothing is worth it from Etisalat but have a read through the link below.

For me, I decided to go with 3g service and use pushmail, works pretty well and web surfing is at decent speeds.

Good luck in what ever you decide.

Thanks Fayz,

Actually I was planning to use the BB for email, web etc. But I don't know whether to do that, or to just get a new mobile with push email and pay for the connect time.

the one good thing about the BB service is it is unlimited for 3g you would pay a subscription for every X amount of bandwidth or pay the normal 1fil per kb, a good thing to do is really decide how much you'll use the phone. I'm sure others will offer their opinions.

... and how much you are not bothered reading the email from a tiny screen ;)

I wonder if Etisalat/du provides air card (PCMCIA card with GSM/CDMA card, some also comes as external USB device). It's convenient carrying small laptop and online anytime.

GPRS network card for laptops.

Has a small slot in it where you put your mobile sim card in.

Then you can access internet anywhere (almost everywhere) in the world.

www.etisalat.ae

check out GPRS (data packets)

You can buy these cards from etisalat or cheaper from compume.

I'm on the personal domestic Blackberry plan and I've been very happy with it. Reading email and even web sites on that small screen is not a big problem. I keep up with my RSS feeds, email, and IM on the go, and it all syncs very well with my Mac. Also check out Palm Dubai.
