I really like the new Honda Jazz (also dubbed Fit in other parts of the world).

What do you guys think of it in terms of Re-sale Value (becuase I return to Egypt mid 08 and I can't have a car that I can't sell and re-pay the bank and leasing with Avis, Hetrz or anyone else is just too expensive)

Also, are the prices quoted on www.drivearabia.com accurate? Many thanks.

I try to be accurate, but the dealers keep shifting prices around constantly. The listed prices on DriveArabia will give you a better indication than anywhere else though. You can use them as a rough guide.

The Jazz did cost 45k for a basic and 50k for full options, last I checked. My friend bought one for 45k six months ago.

Any thoughts re Honda Jazz with regards to Re-sale Value (and whatever else comes to mind)?

In that price range, you should be looking at these cars as well

- mazda 3
- nissan sunny
- nissan tida
- toyota yaris
- mitsubishi lancer

The Lancer is one of the cheapest and you cant go wrong with toyota, if resale is what you are looking for

I forgot to add that there are some great deals on the Ford Focus at the moment

I honestly prefer smaller cars (unless Re-sale is truly bad). The Yaris is very appealing but I am afraid the 1.3 L will give out in the summer with the AC on full blast (am I mistaken?). I drive a Focus now (rental) and I am not at all pleased with the performance (way too heavy I think for a 1.6 L).

What do you think of the 07 Jazz automatic?

I think I am going to go with the Jazz then (I just love the interior and the sporty 1.5 L) unless I am advised that the Re-sale is terrible for this particular Honda. I plan on buying it sometime next April when my Visa and UAE driving license are ready (I hope I don't need to reserve one with a deposit months ahead of time).

Can't say much about resale value. On one hand, it is a Honda, but on the other, it is a hatchback (which are unloved here). Some sort of 4-door sedan (like Civic) has better resale, but all in all, I'd say resale would be only slightly lower if you go with the Jazz.

I was checking out the UAE Honda website just now; if you go for the ES, you miss out on the heat reducing green tint and if you choose the LS, you don't get the alloy wheels. Sucks A$$

Actually I am still struggling between the chep Jazz and the "maybe" affordable Octavia 1.8L but that's from another thread

I think Hatchbacks are not popular here becuase most people drive SUV's so its an image thing plus here I imagine the younger crowd are big on performance which you cannot get from a Hatchback except rarely.

Yes, somewhat of a cultural thing. Nobody buys station wagons either but jump at the chance to buy a 4WD wagon. Hatches also appear somewhat girly. I find that many of them look like half a real car.

I cannot believe the 1.8L TC Octavia is for under 70K; what's the catch (other than re-sale, that's obvious), is it the spare parts, expensive service?

And would that price get you GPS (I know the Octavia is fitted with a navigation system)?

You know, I don't really know what you get for 70k from Skoda. I got that Middle East price off somewhere, which means the Dubai price is probably higher by 5k. On top of that, I heard the 1.8T is out of stock.

But assuming the car was available on order, the price is realistic, since it is the old Volkswagen 1.8 turbo engine with only 150 hp. VW themselves now use the 200 hp 2.0 turbo in the Golf GTI for 105k.

I am not going to drive myself nuts, I will wait till my visa is in order (mid March hopefully) and my license is a couple of day away and then go shopping. Would help though if I knew which makes absolutely have to be ordered before hand.

I was struggling between the Mazda3 and the Jazz, I ended up getting the M3 because it's a little bit faster (regardless of what the 'preformance times' are) and it's a little bit bigger..


Although the Jazz is rated the #1 small car atm in Europe and is constantly ranked #1 on many different sites within the price range, if it was me, spend an extra 5K and get a Mazda3 or another 8K and get a mazda6...

I actually ended up getting the 2.3L Mazda6. No complaints so far

I still believe if it were for less than a year, it'd probably better to rent than buy. The other way around if it were for more than a year.

There are many good car rentals with less rent rate than Avis/Hertz/etc.

When buying, maintenance cost may not be a problem since you'll have warranty. But consider the money you pay for insurance, depreciation when re-selling, registration, test, etc. And no replacement if you have problems with the car.

Just my opinion.
