It all has to do with the worm thing

Mezcal and the Worm
The rules and regulations that govern the production and packaging of Tequila do not apply to agave spirits produced outside of the designated Tequila areas in Mexico. Some Mezcal distilleries are very primitive and very small. The best known mezcal come from the southern state of Oaxaca (wuh-HA-kuh), although it is produced in a number of other states. Eight varieties of agave are approved for Mezcal production, but the chief variety used is the espadin agave (agave angustifolia Haw).

The famous "worm" that is found in some bottles of Mezcal (con gusano -- "with worm") is actually the larva of one of two moths that live on the agave plant. The reason for adding the worm to the bottle of Mezcal is obscure. But one story, that at least has the appeal of logic to back it up, is that the worm serves as proof of high proof, which is to say that if the worm remains intact in the bottle, the percentage of alcohol in the spirit is high enough to preserve the pickled worm. Consuming the worm, which can be done without harm, has served as a rite of passage for generations of fraternity boys. As a rule, top-quality mezcals do not include a worm in the bottle.

Arak, is that a specific sort of alcoholic beverage or a generic (Arabic) word for alcohols?

In the Malay language, it's the latter.

Depends.... Sometimes it's fun, great even, but when you get hangovers you wish you'd just die and always (not kidding) start making promises to yourself that you won't touch a bottle again :P

oh girl...damn tequila: bring up bad memories: i got so drunk that i threw my socks in the toilette...not even now i can understand why

My wildest memories are linked to Rum and ahem, Absinthe......
After getting overly drunk one night at 1 crazy beach party in Lebanon (Baccardi Night 2) I basically couldn't stand up anymore so my friends laid me on the sidewalk on the corniche. I stood up (contradiction with what I wrote before, I know...) , jumped over the wall and started jumping from rock to rock, following shooting stars. I don't remember any of it but my friends told me. Anyway, one of em got hurt really bad when trying to catch me by falling between 2 rocks...
So I got home and at the time I used to wear contact lenses. It was my 1st month or so wearing them so I needed to do it in front of the mirror at that time. But that 1 night, I somehow went to the bathroom , removed my lenses, put them with some solution in their holders, went to my room to take off my cloth, and then went to sleep. In the living room... My mom woke me up a few hours later screaming, asking me if I had removed my lenses. First reaction? I poked myself in the eye to try and check if I was still wearing them

2nd event: A very good friend of mine had just broke up with her boyfriend. So me and another friend of ours took her out to cheer her up. And cheer her up we did. We all got really pissed. Me a lil more than the other 2. So after having my fav drinks: Godfather (Scotch + Amaretto) and White Russian (Vodka + Kahlua + Cream) , a couple Goldshlagger shots (if you don't know what that is, you're missing A LOT) I asked the barman to give me his strongest drink. He gave me a f***in fire.... It's basically a mix of all alcohols you can think of, with ABSINTHE, the f***in Fee Verte! Now please don't lecture me, but with all that, I was the one driving...... We all decided to go to Jbeil (a city north of Beirut, about 30Kms or so I'd say) to watch the sunrise on the beach. So we get there unharmed and go to a beach. For some reason, me and my mate decided to climb a palmtree "for fun". We climbed 2-3 meters than "slided" back down. Emphasis on slided. Ever tried it? Didn't feel much at the time but the next morning I woke up to find my belly and torso bloody with pieces of woods stuck under my skin.

Best thing? No hangovers in both cases. I noticed I only feel sick with red wine for some reason...

i love red wine too but i never get sick from it. the prob is that some ppl mix the drinks---i learned my lesson about that: if it's wine than only wine....not vodka and wine and after if a beer etc

One last story for the night:

2000. Island of Rhodes. So I spent there 5 days with 3 mates on an intellectual journey.

So we were at the Colorado on our 2nd night there... Already had slurped down a fishbowl cocktail at a pub so you can pretty much imagine that I was in the "right mood".

Just to illustrate what a fishbowl is here's a pic I just found online:

Image

Anyway, so we were at the Colorado and each of us went on a quest to enlighten one more person and add them to our fellowship. Granted, preferably female

So at that time I was pretty much into vodka redbull... That night I actually drank 5 Vodka Redbull. Ended up with an Israeli chick. And went back to my hotel room around 7AM. Woke up the mate who was in my room and after briefly trying to get some sleep, I ended up doing push-ups to get rid of all that energy in my body. I could feel the Redbull in my blood until the very end of the day. Kidding aside, this was the LAST time I ever drank Redbull. The smell of it makes me sick now...
