Connecting a Video Camera to a Laptop? Nov 27, 2006
Hi Everyone,

Quick question :?: - i am asking for my hubby so if what i say doesnt make sense please let me know.

Ok we have a Canon Video camera - and have recorded onto a minitape. Now usually to get this onto a computer hubby connects the camera to the computer via a 1394 (?) port.

Now our laptop does not have this - so was wondering whether you can buy some sort of adapter to connect through a USB? and if so is there anywhere in Dubai you can get these.

Thanks!
H

Thanks, we were planning on heading over there - but the traffic at the moment getting in and out after work is crazy.

Dont want to make the trip if what we are looking for doesnt exist - so i thought i would check first.

Check to see if your camera doesn't also support USB 2.0

Some do.

Nup it doesnt - those specs i copied off a random site just based on the type of laptop i have. I dont actually know what the port looks like - trying to get some info for hubby who only knows marginally more than me!

If its connected via the USB the image size or something is smaller? not the same quality apparently.

Problem is we have already a whole tape of stuff we wanted to transfer to PC, and now are a bit stuck!

Its difficult trying to figure this stuff out when i have no idea what i am talking about!

Appreciate the help anyway!

What does the port look like? I am only assuming we dont have it because hubby said we didnt.

Would be good to go home and show him that it was there all along!

Checking out the HP site now to see if it gives me any clues.
