Living in Dubai as an expat Nov 07, 2006
I just passed through DXB with Emirates and am amazed at how the airport is constantly going strong. How many expats are currently living in Dubai? I am Australian, live in Perth.

I'm from Perth as well Mike, but dang, thats about an open a question as one can get. Just a stab in the dark that less than 20% of people here are actually 'locals'.

Very cool and very nice to hear from a Canadian, my mum wants to go there some day to do the train trip from one side to the other.

She would love it! There are many Canadians, that haven't enjoyed yet, shame as it is a large and beautiful country. Many Aussies in Vancouver for the skiing; seemed to be the same in Dubai! Ski Dubai, now that's cool!

I want to know how easy it is to live in Dubai now also, how much does it cost for day to day living also?

It's good but it's nothing like Australia.

Some things are easy, some things are difficult, many things are different.

I enjoy it.

I think to get a good idea you should read around the website, especially the expat help forum, and you'll learn a lot.

This site helped me tremendously in my move from Australia.

Yes I thought some things would be difficult to get, I should think it costs more to buy wine then it does down here.

At a restaurant wine is brutally expensive. If you have a liquor license or go to the Ajman/Barracuda holes in the wall, you can get average wines at good prices.

Mate, if you are handy with a broom and can live off 300 pounds per month you too can join the growing Dubai "expat" community.
