"Twice as cold" is an arbitrary qualitative measure, where as 0 degree is a precise quantitative measure. There is no uniform measure between the two.

However, let us say the average temperature is 21 degrees (depending on the region, but we're doing arbitrary conversion here), then twice as cold as 0 degrees would be -21 degrees C.

Well Ms. Scarlet, this is indeed an interesting question (much better than the others.)

Based on this picture from the Wikipedia article..

Image

Monkfish is an extremely ugly fish.

Monkfish is also part of the Anglerfish family, which is why I was unfamiliar with the taste or the texture when I sampled it. Anglerfish are common mostly to the Atlantic, and as you know, Dr. D. is from the Pacific Region, where we indulge in more reef fish.

It is also referred to as poor man's lobster, because of the interesting taste and texture. I agree it does indeed taste a lot like lobster, but perhaps not as salty.

You can read more about this fascinating fish at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkfish

Monkfish Fun Facts:

* Monkfish have been reported to eat prey nearly one-half their size, as well as capture waterbirds at the surface.
* Monkfish are sometimes known as "allmouth" since the fish is mostly head and the head is mostly mouth.

Some recipes for Monkfish:

http://foodgeeks.com/recipes/type.phtml ... ype_id=124

Dr. D likes these kind of questions.

OMG it's so ugly.

Why is a ham burger called a hamburger when it is actually a beef pattie? And can you get hamburgers in Dubai?

It is because it was allegedly invented in Hamburg Germany. The residents of Hamburg are also called Hamburgers, but are not as tasty.

There is in fact, no ham in a hamburger!!

You can get Hamburgers in Dubai, but I oft see them referred to as Sandwiches.

It is rumored the sandwich was named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich, but in actual fact, they were the favourite food of Witches that like the beach. The word was absconded by the Earl and as punishment he was made English. Prior to this, he was a decent bloke.

Thanks Dr for answering my question about the man in suit case. It is freaky but do not you think that even if it was not online dating things like that could happen. You can not know for example if you are dating a serial killer until you are gone

The key here is anonymity though. You don't know who I am, I don't know who you are, and that's where it gets freaky.

You could be looking for love, I could be looking for your credit cards.

Yes, there's potential for this to happen in real life, but there is a whole lot more potential for this to happen online due to the veil of the internet. There's many a tale of something bad happening to people that me through online chat etc.

I wasn't really sure what your question was, so I hope I answered it.

My best friend..who came here with me ..went back home..she just gave up ..she said what to do with money when your not happy...and she's not...

now..give me some positive notes for me to love this city and stay here..

Hi Isabela,

interesting question. I think what makes these people love Dubai is the experience as a whole, I can certainly say this is the case for me.

When I left the Advanced Rocket Science Research Centre in Australia to come to Dubai, I too was initially confronted with many of the things you mention. Hot! Phew, even for a person whose fulltime job was measuring heat radiance from a class 5 solid state booster at 100 metres, Dubai is still like a smelter. High rent cost! I considered selling top secret information to the Soviets to pay for my rent. Traffic? I had asked my old company to send me one of the prototype jetpacks we developed (they declined) - but you should not look at these things as dealbreakers.

What Dubai does have is rich diversity and a meld of rich cultures. I have made many friends here and all of high quality and from diverse backgrounds. It is with these friends that I have relaxed and have learnt to really enjoy the spoils of Dubai. That and the tax free dollars.

Really though, Dubai is not for everyone, but if you relax about the gripes and embrace the good things such as the friends you make, it can be a great place.

Dr.D how does a radar cam detect which vehicle is speeding up, if there are 6 vehicles in the pic. Or consider that 3 out of the 6 are over speeding, but at the time when the pic is clicked there r 6 vehicles in a row.Would it find out which 3 of the 6 vehicles are over speeding.?

There are two types of technology, laser cams and sonar/radar cams. Both use the same technology for detecting speeding.

As humans, we make the mistake of interpreting the picture over carefully and take into account surrounding objects etc. A radar cam has no such contextual interpretation, it doesn't even see a car!

What is sees is a grid made up of about 100 x 100 cells (cell size differs between cameras / manufacturers) and it measures independently the speed of each cell. When it detects motion in a cell in excess of the speed set in the camera, it takes a picture, and records the location of the cell or group of cells where the offending object occurred. Some models also place a red dot at the centre of the speeding cell group.

This is why even though there is a car beside you, they still know it was you speeding, because of the cell reference, not the contextual aspect of the photo.

Hope this clarified it somewhat.

Because I don't always use Google. In fact, I have rarely used Google or Wikipedia. A lot I either know, or I just make it up.

Why do you respond to sarcasm with sense?

Are the two intertwined?

Things I hate - hrmmm... very few.

I am allergic to Avocado so through extension of this, I somewhat hate it.
I hate bleeding hearts that want to save the world by talking about it.
I hate posers.

Things I like... oh... plenty.

I like social surroundings.
I like the odd (and even) drink.
I like my friends.
I like lamp.

Note: I had to google this.

Sarcasm in itself is a method of logical discussion, and the only appropriate way to deal with it is either to ignore it or go with the flow. Either response is deserved.

I have been told that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but I think that was by someone who just didn't get it.

Only 2 cultures actively practice the dying art of sarcasm, however, there is no long term plan by any cultural preservation society to ensure the continuity of this dying art.

I don't like lassi myself, it's like chugging off milk.

Go with a juice of your favourite liking, or you could always have a coke/pepsi.

I have white hair in my beard too, but I am 31.

I wouldn't worry about it, it shows a little maturity and chicks dig it.

Otherwise, you could shave it off. Or, try colouring it with boot polish.
