Etisalat 3G Data Card Oct 12, 2006
Does anyone have any feedback or review for Etisalat 3G Data Card - (Model E620)?? I am interested in getting one for business use and always connected status. It has a 384kbps speed, so does that seem slow or would it be fine for accessing my office network, files etc?

Not too worried about the cost, just wanted to know if anyone else has any experience with using this technology in the UAE.

I use one because my company wants me to be connected to the office at all times, even when i'm being blown out a cannon :P

It works excellent in Dubai, Deira, Al Qusais, Sharjah, Jebel Ali but the minute you're any further, the connection becomes like a 56K modem.

They have potential but its nothing compared to Cingular in the US.

^^ so do you think it's better we get a sim card and phone from an outside telco dealer such as o2 etc? Because our company Blackberrys are done thru O2, so just figured might as well get a GPRS card from them too...

I dont think that will matter, since after all you will be roaming on the Etisalat network. So you wont get better QoS if you are on an O2 line.

okay, so end of the day should I get it or not? I'm really looking to use it heavil in DMC area and in certain parts of Abu Dhabi i.e a conference centre or a hotel room. It's not too pricey, but really concerned about the connection speed, thats why thinking twice about getting this :) Unless of course I travel with a 40 mile ethernet cable stretching from my office? :) :)

If you're gonna be within UAE, do it.

I have a 3g service on my phone and was just in Abu Dhabi, surfing seemed pretty quick, definitely faster than 56k, maybe in the 194 ball park.

So tell me about the pricing ..

other than 1090 of the card, whats the usage charges/monthly rental ??

Am thinking about blackberry & deploying an application server so that it can route to other services as well.

Heres what it's going to cost thru Etisalat

1,090 to purchase the card
50 for the SIM card

then flat monthly rates are as per bandwith package selected:

50 for 10MB/mo
195 for 50MB/mo
495 for 200MB/mo

I will be going for the 200MB package because of heavy usage on my laptop with CITRIX etc and other net apps.

Man, I know I shouldn't be comparing prices with the US but there its AED 150-200/month unlimited usage..
