Securing a job before arriving in Dubai? Your Experiences Oct 11, 2006
Heya People,

Im new to this forum and so far has been great for a lot usefull information! Thanks!

Im an Australian guy of Egyptian background currently working in IT Project Management in Sydney with about 7 years experience in IT.

I wanted to see how other people in a similar situation to myself found it securing a job before arriving in Dubai? In particular:
1. How do you go about securing a role from outside dubai if at all possible?
2. Agencies ive emailed or spoken to in Dubai suggest that is highly unlikely unless you have some direct association to an organisation. Is this the case?
3. Are there any agencies recommended for expats outside of dubai?
4. What pay range should I expect (in US$ per month)?
5. Does your ability to speak arabic help in anyway?
6. Any other general advice?

Any help would be great.

Cheers,
Yajean

I am using Australian and London based recruiters who specialise in my industry to try and get a job in Dubai. I have been doing it for about 3 weeks now and might be close to a reasonable offer already.

Personally I wouldnt use domestic recruiters as I am going for a position with the regional office of a multinational. Im not sure what you are aiming for - but if you have a similar objective you might want to consider that route.

Takes 2 seconds with a google search ie "engineering recruitment" (or whatever your field is). Pick one of the large recruitment agencies which works in Dubai and somewhere like London. If they are big enough to have offices around the world (check the addresses to make sure they are not post boxes) they are more likely to be reputable.

Thanks boomtown!

Yea i have started speaking to the likes of Hays and other agencies who are international. Will have a look on seek and totaljobs to find Aus and UK agencies but they always seem to have construction jobs only. Will keep looking.

Is the offer made to you including accomadation, car, etc....

Anyone out there who has succesfully made the move this way?

Yes Hays would be a good choice.

No Im negotiating salary and bonus only. On a tax free basis though its enough to make it worth my while even taking into account the differences in cost of living.

I'm in IT too and had been few times moving between companies and countries, mostly direct (no recruitment agents involved). When I had new job out of the country (after some interviews and emails for negotiation and confirmation), I'd make sure that all are written in the contract and ask them to send the final signed contract by FedEx/DHL before I gave resignation to my employer.

I wouldn't believe to put my CV into recruitment agent while there's no vacancy or they can't promise you anything. Let alone to pay some money for that (some agents do ask).

Just go straight to contact the employers directly, look into their website or advertisements in local newspapers and job sites like naukrigulf.com, monstergulf.com. Or even better by reference of any of your friends or local community.

Last effort, you may also look into job vacancies that interest you (in jobsites or local newspapers) published by recruitment agents. At least they have something to offer already.

And finally the most important one, publish yourself to the Internet by making your personal website containing your detailed CV/resume. If you have good experiences and skills, people will instead look for you.

I agree - never deal with a recruitment agent that wants a fee from an employee.
