Housing Tax

Can anyone give me some info on Housing Tax please? I've tried searching but cannot find much on it.

Just need to know:

What it is?
How much?
Who has to pay it?
Etc?

Housing tax is levied by Dubai Municipality on your accomodation

How much?
5% of the annual rental divided by 12 equals the monthly amount for rental. For ownership it is 0.5% of the purchase price divided by 12 equals the monthly payment.

Who has to pay it?
That would be subject to negotiation however it is levied on your DEWA bill so if it is in your name then you pay.
Etc?

Ok thanks - so just to confirm. The DEWA bill will be in my name on the property I am just about to rent.

Does that mean that DEWA will slap this on on top of my bill? That would be quite expensive.

Rental is 95K AED for the year.

Will the DEWA bill break this down - will it show on the bill?

Yeah, the bill is broken into water, electricity, sewage and tax

Correct and you will be paying Dhs. 395.83 per month

I contacted the leasing agent and she said she was not aware of anyone having to pay this tax in Dubai and she rents and does not pay it. She said it was just those who have received housing from the government?

Is this right?
Does everyone pay it? Very confusing???

It especially applies to all new DEWA accounts, I have been paying this tax for over a year. And beware all old DEWA account holders they are coming after you :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:
