Laptop / software help Sep 28, 2006
Hi,
I have a packard bell laptop, centrino 2ghz. 2 gb of ram, 80gb hdd.
bought it in dec.

i formatted it a few months ago after upgrading the ram, and installed everything on my own so that i dont have the unnecessary packard bell software.

Since the time, or maybe from the beginning, the laptop is too slow; especially booting. I say this because i have 2gb of ram and it should fly!!

Can anyone recommend the best software to do a full checkup of my laptop and to know why its so slow?
It sucks.

Thanks.

1. Check your startup list
2. Check your Virtual Memory / Page Filing
3. Check the Primary Partition Size
4. Do a FIXMBR / CHKDSK / FIXBOOT
5. Check Config.sys
6. Check Autoexec.bat
6. In BIOS, Check system memory & IRQ Sharing
7. Check memory sharings by your video controller
8. OS? Version? Try clean up registry.
9. If the above doesnt work.. post back ..

(A) Click on START, RUN

Type msconfig and hit OK

Go to the startup tab and clear any unneccessary items that do not need to be in startup. (like googletalk, icq, yahoo, msn, etc)

(B) Go to System Properties, Advanced, Performance Settings, Advanced, Memory Usage, Change it to a large setting like 1024 - 1920 and hit SET

Restart your machine.

(C) Clear your startup folder Under START, PROGRAMS

(D) Get rid of any spyware software. keep it on a CD for whenever you need it but don't keep it installed on your machine.

lolz

Stuck in the DOS days aren't we?

Oh man still remember when we had to manually tweak those 2 files to get more extended/expanded/conventional memory to run different programs... And who could forget memmaker
