Once, I had been told that Russians never smile.

Recently, I heard a statement: All Russians are mafia.

What is YOUR association with word "Russian"?

My brother is a gymnast. He has been trained by Russian coaches every day for the past 14 years. They are very hard working, dedicated and good people. Some of the best people I know.

russians never smile thats true. actually i started meeting russians since i was 10-11 yrs old. as my uncle who was in russia used to have his friends coming.

Well because the russian mafia in dubai where the first to exploit the girls and bring them here so you will find that back in the day most of the hookers were russian (and when i say russian i mean all the formet soviet union ukraine, kazakh, etc .. )

That is the point. If you tried to figure out "who are they", you would surprisingly find that most of them are not Russians. They came from poorest regions, where there are no opportunities (or very little opportunities) for women. Most of "Russian" Russian females are educated and able to earn money other ways. Besides, they have high value of morality. Still, why foreigners are not distinguishing them? Why word "hooker" is not associated with "Uzbek", "Kazakh", etc, but "Russian"?

IF you spend a day at the JBH, you will know what i mean. Since this summer they now print their pool menu's in English Arabic and Russian, and its easy to spot the aging russian fat bloke with the young babe complete with silicone breasts.

A lot of Russian Mafia money is laundered through the UAE.

Larissa the only way to improve the image is to have more "normal" people like you who are working and living among others and meeting them to dispel a specific stigma or stereotype. And it is sort of a paradox because its hard to be a normal person here when there is such a stereotype in the first place. For example i have a morrocan friend who doesnt like to say she is morrocan just because morrocan women have been linked to prostitution here too. I told her its the wrong attitude that she should be proud and strong and prove to those people with the stereotype that not every morrocan girl in dubai is a a prostitute !!

Give me a break, no one is calling Larissa a hooker. And she's been wonderful about this thread, despite hearing about the stereotypes of Russians here.

I don't have one word that comes to mind, but I feel positive about Russia and Russians because I've liked most of the Russians I've met back home and in Europe. They were funny and well educated. Also, I studied Russian language at university and think it is a beautiful language. (Am sad its gone rusty on me now ). Russian civilisation is also impressive - look at the art, architecture, literature etc. that has come from there. I have one Russian friend here in Dubai and she is not a prostitute! She's going to be very frustrated by how she will be treated here because she is very beautiful and dresses well - so will likely be followed and propositioned as a prostitute by slimy men.

Russians are hot, and smart people

and the women have the hottest accent too
