Hi all ... taking a couple of friends to iftar tonight. Not planning anything lavish just something relaxed and casual. Any suggestions ... I have 2 hours to finalise!

Most of the hotels are doing something ... Madinad has a great event on in the main ballroom but its flash I am afraid ..

Sheraton Jumeirah is supposed to be nice. I'm thinking of going there tonight (so hungry)! I'll let you know if it's any good...

I know it's a bit late for today but I just got back from breaking my fast at Ibn Battuta in the Chinese garden (outdoor) area, there was a Lebanese place that starts with an M that wasn’t bad. It was outdoors and had shisha, all you can eat and drink juice and pop for AED 59.

Food was medium but service was very good, really friendly staff.

I’d go back, let me know how you made out, PBH and PP.

Its Ramadan, entertainment till 2am someone forgotten about Traveeh Prayers , I dont even care if i get slated for saying it , how about calling some frineds around for meal at your house something modest something nice.

Went to the Shangrila and it was nice, as it was last year as well. They have a good variety and its 120 per head. They also have a very nice Ramadan tent upstairs for post iftar sheesha and mezzeh. We decided to skip that and went to the Dusit instead, last year their tents were quite nice. Couldn't believe it when they said we had to order a minimum of 70 AEDs worth of food to sit there. Even if we had just had sheesha and tea it would probably have come to that much but they way they handled themselves was tacky. We left. Downstairs the valet forgot which car was ours, couldn't figure out which valet ticket was ours and had us wait 20 minutes for the car. I am not going back to Dusit

How do these places work - do people go there to break their fast, or after the Maghrib prayers for 'dinner'?

I've been breaking the fast at home, praying with the family and then eating.

You book for iftar. You get a table, you break your fast, you can then go to their prayer room and pray Maghreb, then return and continue with dinner.

Sorry to hear you to hear things didn't go well at Dusit, thanks for your review though, I'll try out Shangra La.

Sheraton was nice too. Option of sitting outside on the decking or inside the air conditioned tent, both of which are on the beach. Iftar was 120dhms each and they had arabic grills, pasta, curries etc and the desserts were yum (they had a crepe stand ).

You can smoke sheesha in the tent or outside and there is a little guy at the back strumming away some Arabic rhythms on his little guitar. Service wasn't so hot with dithering waiters who brought me a 400dhm bill for one iftar and a shisa, then they took it away, brought it back and got it wrong and third time lucky they got it right. However, the sheesha man is pretty attentive and changes the coals several times.

The only thing that upset me was the brightness in the tent... It wasn't over bearing, I just like it to be slightly dimmer and seductive for the authentic feel. Not easily please am I!!!

All in all, not bad though!
