I came to this forum because I wanted to find out more about Dubai for relocation idea but then I liked the forum and the events organised by members so I would love to make friends here. I started this topic because I wanted to find out if people here are for real? Because I have been told by at least 5 members to take it easy, it is only a forum!!!. I might joke around or tease people, but I hope I have not offended anyone, sometimes this typing can not express what you feeling or what you are trying to achieve by your posts. In most cases iam for real, and I do not come here to just waste time and just pick fight with people or insult others because it is fun. I know it is the net but as I said before, I have been to different forums for different interests, where I shared thoughts with others and made good friends. Iam not obsessed with the net but I seriously think a forum is very nice platform for network, if I think it is only virtual world and who cares, I would go to chat line to waste time. If I have been mean or unfair to someone, it will actually affect me emotionally. Iam very sensitive person and I think behind each nick name there is a human been, and I do not have to hide behind mine to insult others and think it is ok. So are you for real?

Most of the people on here are for real. Like most forums, we get the usual detritus of spammers and trolls and some dweebs who just like to write drivel or are morons who enjoy sticking pins in dolls, but you will find that the majority of the key posting personnel are genuine. Its up to you to contribute how you feel!

Weed out the crap and enjoy!

Well, it's fair to say I have met in real life, a good number of the regularish posters here. I find with some people what they post is who they are, with others I think they adjust their personas somewhat, perhaps an online persona so-to-speak.

It is real life I guess, but it is also only the interweb, and although we have the occasional online spat or disagreement, it doesn't (or shouldn't) carry over into the real world. Most people here are very reasonable in the flesh and it would be good if you could make it to a meet.

Having said that, my liver has never had it so rough since I met some of these lot

It also comes down to how one interacts with another, initially how they write. I think it bsically comes down to how perceptive one is in being able to read posts and relate that to the person.

You are correct in saying that it is easy to sometimes get it wrong, and we have all been guilty of that.

I will be quite frank with regards myself and i hope i dont cause embarrassment but there are 5 people on here i feel are good friends of mine on here, and they are Kanelli, DK, Zooter, XRW and Concs.

We were all just posters at one point Sara, but through a common interest, writing style and just an instinct of knowing whether or not we are compatable being just poster will generally go to the next level.

In saying that, it doesnt mean we all have to agree, Kanelli/XRW and i often disagree in here but, because we have taken things beyond just being posters it doesn't matter. Zooter and i never fall out because he does what i tell him too and DK and me live in our own world because we are of the same mould and i am his senior.

In writing this they are many others here i interact with and are my friends and i havent named them all but they know who they are

You will find some of the nicest people around in here Sara, many are very kind, thoughtful and generous.

here on chat line or forum you can NEVER make a friend. why? because you don,t know the face of the person, most of people here, are just for fun here, most of them they dislpay themself very nice, but you don,t know who is behind the line, that can be man or woman, sometime man's they said they are woman. sometime oppsite. so you know better than me. if you really looking for good friend, you should look around your self. work-school-club(sport) not nightclub. in this way you can find some good friends. the good friends are not only online, they are everywhere, i,m by myself. I don,t have a male friend. I know most of them are not my type or not common together, so we can not be friend. i don,t need a friend, I have alot of experience with friend. so when I have a friend , they are only for coffee, or maybe at gym, not more. why ? I had enough trouble. so i,m by myself.

if you really looking for good friend. look at ur school-library-work .....

Hay random boy, through forum you can see a bit about the person attitude/ interests etc but I agree you get to meet them in person to see if you can be good friends. Iam not looking for friends here, I have plenty in London. Iam looking for friends in Dubai if I go there, plus learn more about the country. Iam very out going person, and iam sure I can make friend then but that was not my topic. I was asking if you are for real or pretend to be someone else??

Sara, yes - many of us are real.

I'm a bit fiesty sometimes, but I don't really believe any real friendships can develop if they are based on people only agreeing with each other and trying not to make waves. We all have our own quirks - positives and negatives - we're all human

i think it is pretty simple to sift the wheat from the chaff in forums, unless you have a mulitple-personality disorder it would be very difficult to keep up the pretence of an alter-ego, especially where it is an open forum like this one and whatever anyone says is open to scrutiny.

in any case, what would be the point of any pretence???

the only obvious thing that springs to mind would be some guy trying to get some (normally female) forum member into the sack. normally posters like that are to shallow or stupid to even use thier imagination and are easily spotted.

Great question, Sara!

Based on what I have seen to date, most of us are real. There are certain people I feel that I connect with, share common beliefs, and consider very beneficial to the forum. I have not really shared much of myself on DF lately mostly because of the subjects discussed - but am looking forward to continuing a forum relationship with many of you, and will someday then meet the members personally.

Hope that you can come to Dubai soon, and when you do please let us know and we can meet you.

Thank you all for your replies. I must say, I have looked into relocation to Dubai but after visiting this forum I realised it is not such good idea (at least right now). I have enjoyed this forum so much that I can’t leave now. I would love to meet some of you.

Thanks Arni, i will defiantly come for visit, after next week my whole life will be different, once the stress is over then I can think of a holiday.
