Have the UAE censors claimed a scalp?? Apr 02, 2006
Jason Leavy, the launch editor of Emirates Today in Dubai, has left the paper and returned to England.

He gave personal reasons for the departure, having only launched the paper in September last year but there have been suggestions that the real reasons could be around interference in editorial by the group’s chief exec, Abdullatif Al Sayegh.

There have been suggestions that the breaking point was in January when the paper did not report a taxi drivers strike.

What a difficult task journalists face in the UAE trying to push the boundaries in telling people what is hapenning. Just as with the recent riot among labourers at the Burj Dubai, efforts are constantly made to gag proper, serious and important stories that scratch below the surface and reveal the real Dubai.

Jason did leave because of falling out with Abdullatif, the guy likes to have a strangle hold on everything. Gulf News, 7 Days and Kaleej Times are so much more open in their reporting and get down to the nitty gritty.

Sadly Emirates Today is part of the whole ARN/DRN/Dubai Holdings company, government run and will never have the balls it needs to report on decent things in the city.

You should read the Insider column in last weeks Time Out, they ripped the p*** out of it, because their front page stories are ridiculous, who cares about premium bonds and the stoke market? But strives, murders, robberies anything which might give Dubai a bad name is over looked or not touched.

Only people who want a rose tinted view of the world should read Emirates Today, it's a pathetic paper.

Sadly Sniper, many papers literally just cut and paste their stories from the international news wires, there's not much actual local reporting going on.

That headline just goes to show that Emirates Today don't cover any hard hitting stories to put on their front page. It's edited to hell but this is typical of the guy that runs it - very sad. And I'm pretty sure that if Jason hadn't left, he would have been pushed.

Luckily I just say what I want and no-one edits me - hehehe.

Of course the headline we're all waiting for is:

Choco's Big Fat Greek Wedding

:D :D :D

That was unkind and uncalled for.

Choco, erm, ahem...... the film title doesn't refer to anyone's waist size, merely to the fact that it is a big Greek do with loads of fuss!

How could a Miss Dubai Forums be anything other than a superfit stunner with a figure to die for! Grease, grease, grovel, grovel!

OK, OK.... I better just put this shovel down now and stop digging.......

I think I know the one to which she refers: Page 3 of the Gulf News! Maybe it should be in the Romance Forum?

How do you paste an image in here? I have it as a .jpg file somewhere...

The headline for this post should read:

'New Technology baffles p*ssed old Jedi!"

Well there was another Bangladeshi man who got caught with a cow. But thankfully they couldn't prove the cow had been molested, so she escaped being slaughtered and is now happy grazing with the rest of the herd.

Briefly, some bloke had fallen in love with a camel, and how do I put it......... and was making love to it  ("kneel down baby you are too tall for me?????? :? mind boggles) Anyway, he got caught and the camel got put down (its meat was tainted)-so the camel got the raw end of the deal.

I was also trying to get a handle on where this thread came into the 'Politics, Philosophy and Religion' forum...however a moments reflection brought it home to me:

Politics:-
"Politically, the question of whether the camels rights were 'invaded' is a moot point"

Philosophy:-
"One has to suppose the camel was quite philosophical about the whole affair, right up until the moment the gun went bang"

Religion:-
"Yes, it is confirmed, he was religiously rogering the camel!"
