I was wondering about any recent contribution by the brits (forget colonialism - obviously the americans kid their a$$ and more recently they have lost all their "empire" in the last 60 years).

Frankly, I came up empty. But since Dubai is such a large British Expat post I figure I would be enlightened.

Any contribution? Bueler? Anyone?

How recent do you want?

Brits tend to be good at inventing stuff eg Clive Sinclair and Trevor Bayliss.

DEFRA (now called something else) invented RADAR, velcro, LCDs and I think flat panel speakers.

In medicine we cloned Dolly. We've got some good scientists - Stephen Hawkins etc who have made advances in cosmology, astronomy, mathematics (Fermat's last theorem anyone?).

Also, the BBC and TV programmes in general - we have unleashed Simon Cowell on the world, invented formats such as Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Arguably we also invented hooliganism
