I never in my wildest dreams expected this concert to go off the way it did.
One of the best concerts I have been to... and I don't even like Rod Stewart.
Fantastic night out.
The crowd was great and everyone, young and old, were getting into it.
Spandau Ballet got everyone fired up, and after a brief rest, Rod kept things rocking for another hour and a half.
Anyone know what the attendance was? 25,000 I reckon, and every single one of them was singing along.
I could not fault it.
Fast to get in (unless you didn't pre-purchase tickets)
Plenty of food and drink stalls.
The combination of grandstand seating and on-field standing worked well.
Both artists started on time.
Spandau Ballet are nearing the end of their tour and were pitch perfect.
It was Rod's first night, but his band played like they had been on tour for months.
Everyone was a bit shocked when Rod didn't come back for a second encore and all stood there for a few minutes in disbelief that the show was really over. But he is 67 odd years old and did pretty well to last that long.
Getting out was fine.
There were not enough buses for the demand, but lots of taxis.
The buses and Spandau Ballet went back to the Barasti Bar. Rod went to bed (probably with the sax player)
So all in all a good night.
I would recommend you go and see Rod, but I think that the venue, crowd and band combined to make it good.
I have been to better artists in dud venues, and have left feeling disappointed.
