IMO living in Sharjah (especially near the border of Dubai) nowadays is not that cheaper than living in Dubai (e.g. Al Ghusais and surroundings). Yet you'd stuck with more traffic (means more petrol=expense). If I were you, if it were for only 5-10K/year rent difference, I'd stay in Dubai. One place...

There are 2 stupid things about Dubai/UAE postal service: 1. Except for couriers like Aramex/DHL/etc, they don't deliver to doorstep. You must have PO Box (personal or company's). 2. Even if people want to open personal boxes (not free), except for some big buildings, it's impossible for people to h...

Better ask the HR/PRO of your new employer in FZ if they really require the NOC.
Though I'm surprised that you resigned before getting the new job (signed a contract) ;)

Unless you have high profile/role with excellent experience records, consider yourself very very very lucky to get 170K just only for accommodation rent allowance for a single.
Who is your employer by the way? Maybe I'll apply for a job there ;)

There's one in Karama. Take a right turn just after Pizza Hut opposite the tall building with oval green light on top (you can see from distance) if you're coming from Trade Center towards Burjuman/Bur Dubai, then take the first left for 15 meters, the restaurant is there on the corner. It's Pakista...

Re: quick question about a specific neighborhood

What is the general atmosphere, demographic, opinion etc of Bur Dubai? More specifically 9B street between Al Mina Road and Mankhool Road, about a 10 minute walk back from Al-Mina road by the Dry docks and the port? 9B street is a bit cramped (old & smaller apartments). Southern of Rolla Street...

A couple of things to bear in mind if you're both working: nurseries here are geared to the assumption that mum stays at home while dad works. It's very difficult to find a nursery that takes kids all day - most run approximately 8.30 to 12.30, though some have optional late classes (at extra cost)...

Add the re-enforced NOC rule then it'll be faster than predicted ;)

Hopefully by the time my apt contract ends mid of 2008, the price would have fall down ;)

I am in a similar situation, with a Sharjah residence visa, though I work and live in Dubai. I have to take my driving lessons in Sharjah, which is a real pain and expensive as well, due to the transportation costs. They no longer seem to transfer the driving license file from one Emirate to anothe...

I'm looking for Sunday school (though it may be Friday school here, but you know what I mean) for children (about 3.5 yo). Preferably near Burjuman/Karama/Bur Dubai. Anyone knows?

Dubai-based recruitment company? (immigrating to Canada)

Sorry if it's not at the right place. I, with family, am seriously considering to immigrate to Canada (most probably Vancouver) and later on to have secondary citizenship. I'm under skilled professionals with almost 15 years of experience, managerial skills, and good records in IT (specifically IT-R...

First off when you say IT-Retail, are you more talking about POS systems, developing them, tracking customer habits, etc? I know the market in Alberta is a lot better especially IT then in BC, wages are higher in AB. Are you choosing BC because you have family there? Vancouver is one of my all time...

I've come across enough stories of Russian driving, and the President's motorcade is famous for speeding through streets after forcefully clearing streets that were clogged with traffic a few minutes earlier. Also, be ready for more wrong-way driving (than here) and no traffic signals even at 4-way...

dubaidog, here's world's Cost of Living ranking I got from here . Toronto, the most expensive city in Canada, has dropped 35 places to position 82 ( score 78.8 ). Calgary and Vancouver have also tumbled down the rankings, sliding from 71st place to 92nd and 56th to 89th respectively. Ottawa remains ...

Yes, children of Arab women who have foreign husbands won't be UAE nationals..not to mention their mother. That's the only way the UAE can preserve it's ethnicity. No foreign 'seeds' should adulterate the gene pool. Not exactly true. Few months ago I posted a topic taken from a sports website that ...

Well, be prepared for the cold. I for one can't stand it. The cold in Atlanta, Georgia USA almost killed me from shivering even with thick jackets on. And it doesn't even snow there (except once in 30 years). And Atlanta is supposed to be closer to the equator, hence hotter. Seeing here I think I c...

And any inputs you can give on my previous post before that?

And the rough costs breakups?

The new Dell XPS M1330 is cool and sleek, especially for the higher end (see Dell UAE website). The lower end you'll find plenty in hypermarkets (Carrefour) & electronic stores (Sharaf, Jumbo, Jacky's). The higher end you need to search/ask I guess. Try computer stores of Al Ain Centre and Compu...
