Thanks for the info on LG. Good specs you have, almost similar to the Dell I'm eye-ing. My wife likes the white keyboard LG has. Other than good specs (which should last at least 3-5 years), (sleek) model is on top of my criteria too (I don't mind spending 500 AED more). Most of laptops either too u...

Car plate number

No fancy & ridiculously-expensive numbers. Just regular 5 digits but with specific numbers (e.g. birth date). Any idea how much?

my friend you are a ivy leaguer, 24000 dollars per year in my opinion is very low, im sure you can do much better in the states. Not exactly. Considering his accommodation and transportation are provided (as long as it's not a shared room & car), that would be doubling the basic salary, plus no...

I guess now that I look at it 24k is fair but im surprised that college graduates out of an ivy league institution only earn 34K starting in the states. You can't support a good life on 7300 dirhams a month but for a fresher I guess it's fair, have fun in Dubai ! Nowadays with tougher competition, ...

Re: Cost of Living in Dubai

Here in Saudi, I am paying 30k for a 3 bedroom apartment in a posh area. I am paying 6000 sar per year for my daughter schooling. In Dubai, you'll have to spend 4-5 times than that for apartment and 3-10 times (per child) for school (depends on which school). If you'd like to maintain the same livi...

First time went to Gitex Shopper at Airport Expo. It's just a hype as usual. Exaggerated. There are not many shops (as I compare to other exhibitions) and all sold almost the same products. The prices are the same or even higher than downtown shops. I regret that I missed the better exhibition at Tr...

How much the salary is relative. It depends on your lifestyle and expectations. But considering your accommodation and transportation would have been taken care of and assuming that your 3yo child wouldn't go to expensive Westernish kindergarten (5-6K pm), in general (mid-class) it's enough to save ...

As noted, his $24K is nett (exclude accommodation & transport allowance, no-tax). So it'd be comparable to $55-65K gross.

Yes they have it in almost every (electronics) stores in Dubai. But it doesn't mean Gitex price has to be lower than normal price, does it ;)

Thanks for your suggestions. I will try Karama, even though the only thought of walking around Karama, not knowing a particular place, makes me feel exhausted already, as Ikea and Home Center do not have what I need. Thanks again. There's one big curtain store just on the corner of Ramada/Bur Dubai...

I'm surprised at min salary requirement, I thought it was lower. I'm really sure that min salary for friends is 10K as I've been sponsoring 2 friends so far. Though the second one was for my brother in law, but I applied him as "friend" because it may require more documents to show that w...

Employment Visa does exist (and considerably legal & safer for the employee than Visit Visa). But don't know about Temporary one.
A professional company normally will give Employment Visa instead of Visit Visa, and that's fully their responsibility.

Definitely not enough for 1BR. Double up for decent/mid-class apartment in lively Bur Dubai/Karama areas. Even for Studio would be difficult in those areas which around 4500-5500. Maybe in Deira/Sharjah/Ghusais. Let alone other areas which are way more expensive. So if you don't want to commute, I g...
