I overlook the Burj Tower and lakes and everyone that comes here thinks it is one of the best areas of Dubai to live as it is so central and the views - well they speak for themselves! The view of the constructions! LOL. Enjoy the view until all the buildings in that area are finished and block you...

Motorized small vehicle without driving license?

Is there or is it allowed in Dubai to have like a small scooter or any motorized small vehicle where we don't need a driving license? It'd used only in the neighborhood (not big/main roads) for my wife taking/pickup my kid to/from school (less than 1 km away).

I know in some European countries you can use small motorized 2/3 wheels vehicles (small engine capacity, specific model, etc) on the road without license. And off course I know that it will not be used for big/main roads. That's why I said for within the neighborhood/compound/complex or on resident...

Buy yourself a thin name/business card holder. You can keep plenty of your pocket-size photos there. At least, that's what I use for keeping my plastic cards and business cards which can't fit anymore in my men's wallet. And the good things, keeping your wallet in good condition and it doesn't hurt ...

I take your point.
But taking a school bus doesn't guarantee it'd be safer too. I'm just trying to find alternatives.

Ideally, your apartment would be just next/in front of the school, but I doubt I'd get one.

Borneo (or Kalimantan in Indonesian) is so big. Which part?
I went several time to East Kalimantan province (wife's birth place).
Buy some precious stones, arts, crafts, and eat raw sea turtle eggs ;)
Didn't get the chance to go to the deep forest to see black orchid and Dayak tribes.

why someone would want to take a child on any form of vehicle other than a car or bus amazes me. As chocs said apart from the total lack of safety why would anyone want to ride around in the heat on a scooter etc. :? If my wife had got the driving license and car herself, there would be no question...

The school doesn't offer a bus service? Yes there is. But can't imagine to let my 3 years old daughter taking the school bus all the way to Al Ghusais. So that's why I'm trying to find alternative like moving my apt nearby so my wife can take her somehow, at least before we're getting her own drivi...

I'd choose Nissan Tiida 1.6L (probably need to crank the budget up few more thousands, but worth it), good enough for acceleration/speed than 1.3L Sunny/Lancer/Yaris. Yet compact enough to be used in the city. And it's a European-Japanese breed.

I don't know about your specific checkup requirements, but in general in Dubai health care is very expensive. The company's insurance mostly will cover only general in/out patient cases. Rarely even cover maternity, teeth, and eyes. Your prescription in UK would probably be cheaper because I believe...

I have O2 XDA Mini S (same as K-Jam) with latest ROM (WM5) but haven't tried nor dare to upgrade to WM6. This stupid thing is so damn slow and freeze all the time. Any affordable rent-to-own completed apartments?

I've been here for couple of years and I'm thinking to stay here for next 5 years. Instead of wasting the money for renting, I'm thinking of buying 1BR (2BR if possible) an apartment by installment or rent-to-own scheme for somewhere between 300K to 400K. I believe it must be a freehold, right? I'm ...

If you go by Dubai-Sharjah road (Garhoud bridge towards Sharjah), off course it'll be nightmare. But since you'll work in Festival City, you'll be taking the other road (Rashidiya) or a tunnel (?) south of the airport. As in Ghusais itself, there's not much traffic as it's a new developed area (at l...

Alexandria? Beirut?

Got to spend my 35000 miles on Emirates Skywards promotion (50% off). For 3 of us, no extra ticket purchase if possible.

How's Alexandria? What to see & do?
How's Beirut? Has it recovered after the war?

Re: Stay rented at Bur Dubai economical

What level of employee would get a pay package similar to mine... For IT, there's no standard, depends on the experience, industry, skills. Some programmers earn 4000 some others 15000. But in general 12500 would be on mid level (say 5+ years exp) up to (small) project leader/manager. Having specif...

Yeah, I guess I need to top up the budget, say 450K. Outside Dubai is out of my options. In that range, I saw some ads on Internet about Greece cluster and Toronto/Vancouver tower in Intl City.
