Have you tried the place behind (sorta) lemongrass - i think it is called Lam Kwai Fong, or similar i quite like the food there. Also if you like Malaysian, the first malaysia restaurant at the top of....sky tower (i think thats the one - next to Al Attar on SZR) is great - just simple food but rea...

I really like going to IV, i can wear slippers and just be comfy while having sumptous dinner. What kind of food they serve at IV? And can we bring kids? I was thinking IV is some kind of resto-bar where no kids normally there. Slippers rule! ;) I don't like fancy restaurants. Food is not worth it ...

Below that, you have a selection of OK schools like Heriott Watt which is linked to Edinburgh Business School. On the topic of recognised unis, the names of those unis (a...

Couple of years ago I bought this cable from Carrefour (imported AV accessories section). S-Video to 3 RCA plug. Tried on my HP laptop, but all I could see was only shaky black & white picture with terrible sound. Tried every settings (PAL, NTSC, AUTO) but no help. Asked HP service center, but a...

You can bring kids but not for dinner. There are restuarants (that serve asian, south american dishes, arabic and etc) inside the compound other than the Irish Pub. There's Costa Coffee shop also. Check the place with your wife first. Looks like a fun place. Will definitely go there. Need to check ...

hurray! Your HR Manager or whoever brain your HR policy is smart. :D Company saves 30% from paying gratuity. Most companies are doing the same. Well, in the end, that's fine... it's free money anyway. Most of companies I worked with (different countries) don't give this. But lesson learned ;)

xty - I will try to keep you updated on my progress. I had the same thing S-Video to 3 RCA but could not get the tv to pick up a signal. Thanks. I appreciate it. Try to do something (signal type, resolution) on your PC/laptop's dual screen settings (PAL/NTSC), the one we use normally for projector ...

Re: Residence and work in Dubai

High Definition Digital Monitor Desktop Wallpaper What's that? Means a picture of HD resolution (720i/1080i pixels/lines in height)? Hmm, I guess we're going back to the 1-2 mega pixels era like 5-10 years ago ;) Even my 2 years old 8 megapixels digital camera can produce 3264x2448 pixels resolutio...

Talk to your company if it's possible to "accumulate" your total service in the company eventhough it involves multiple contracts. Keep all your contracts copies. Longer service means bigger gratuity (percentage to your basic salary).

See my earlier post about gratuity calculation.

Alternative to international roaming?

I've been provided an Etisalat GSM/postpaid SIM card from my company. In the last several months I've been traveling in and out of UAE. One reason why Dubai is more and more expensive to live in

In general sometimes I don't understand these people coming to Dubai, too high standards... too much expectations.... "Hey I got a job in Dubai... hey I have to get paid high because it's Dubai not because I'm high valued... hey I want to live like a king in a big mansion with 5 bedrooms even I...

How much percentage do you spend for accommodation?

As we all know, accommodation is our main and biggest expense here in Dubai. Sometimes I'm just curious about how people can afford to rent such expensive villas/apartments, how much the salary, what do they do, shared or exclusive, etc etc. Here I'm not asking about the Dirhams, but just a percenta...

For DEWA, that cost (yearly) is still reasonable for 1BR. I paid 400-700 AED monthly. But for studio, it could be cheaper. Even many furnished studios offer free DEWA (included in the rent fee). Apartment (1 bed) Dewa Bills if Central A/C should not go above Dhs. 300.00 per month average. sage, I t...

Why Springs/Greens? That's "too far" considering your office is on SZR (near Fairmont). If you prefer tall buildings, there are plenty of them in SZR itself. Probably you can go to office by walk. Else, there are many nice apartments in Mankhool residential area, very close to hapennings (...
