As I said before, i don't understand Arabic so don't watch al-jazeera so can't comment on whether they did link or not - but I am interested in hearing about why Chocs, Kanelli, Arnie etc have written that they do not approve of Al Jazeera - would their opinions change if it transpires that Al Jaze...

Ok, here's the same story on English Al Jazeera as far as I can tell. Both Arabic and English versions are talking about 6 people died from a cluster bomb explosion. I don't follow the reference to games and stationery in the Al Ittihad Arabic story though. Are the police saying the claim is nonsens...

Shirt and tie (and trousers). Jacket probably not necessary unless at management level or sales. Short sleeves ok but I always think it looks odd with tie. Pure cotton is better than polyester/cotton mix. Ask bank what their dress code is to get answer on polo shirts. You can buy clothes here too :s...

Not really 'off topic' seeing as we were talking about 'news stories'. I thought we were talking about news about Lebanon/Hizbullah/Israel conflict? Where has everyone gone? I'm still curious about the bit in the article I didn't understand clearly. Surely there's someone who can do a better job of...

hmm fayz the goverment was put with a hugely popular resistance, and Iran - next to lebanon- has the most democratic system in the middle east. So it has to be what the majority of iranians want. :!: What was the number of candidates prevented from running in the last election? About 3000? ...

I understood that UAE citizens were restricted from having other nationalities. It might vary depending on the reason for nationality. As a generalisation, a nationality obtained by right (country of birth, parents nationality) is a lot "stickier" than a nationality obtained by choice (eg ...

It seems like many of the VOIP services have stopped - Skype included.

I remember reading something a few months ago about some software that Etisalat had purchased which could detect and block VOIP traffic. Looks like they got it working. Will be interesting to see if DU duse it too.

What do mean you're with the DIC?? Is that a seperate ISP? Im on al shamil. Sort of. It still uses Etisalat plumbing. The ISP is called TECOM no? Al Shamil is the type of connection - DSL as opposed to dial up. There's another topic 'Vonage' with similar issues and a link to a useful topic on the v...

Don't assume you can use VoIP at present - there's two other current topics on the subject. One titled Vonage and the other Skype.

What was the number of candidates prevented from running in the last election? About 3000? I would rate that as much less democratic than Palestine, Kuwait, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt. 2300 were disqualified by the Guardian Council in the 2004 elections according to the BBC. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/...

Sorry for the length of this post. I've typed out answers to most of that already somewhere (so have others). You'll get more useful stuff if you make it obvious you had a good look first.

Ok, perhaps I should have worded that differently. About a third of the nominees were prevented from running by the Guardian Council - which is not a democratically appointed body - because they were too pro-reformist.

$40,000,000 is 4 times the 2005 profit for the Bank of Maldives Mr Thoriq so I think it's a joke, but that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before. avasmail.com.mv seems to be a Maldivian email portal. Not sure how that's related to the construction industry either. Anyway, thank you for your g...

Or she decides she does not want to get over him and I'll leave her alone... Any thoughts are appreciated - Thanks Do you want her to be...

I've seen a Regent School (Indian primary school?) and a Regent International School - UK curriculum, K-12, IB. Don't know if they're the same. King school is primary only? I got the impression that Regent had a more international feeling than King's, which seemed more British. No sure if I am right. Any thoughts? Makes sense. RIS offers IB no? That's a good indication a school is more international in its outlook. AFAIK, King School was intended to be a British schoo...

The problem is Etisalat plan to launch their own VoIP service later this year, and Du is also going to be pushing VoIP services next year. The laziest thing to do is not to bother - you still have car in your name and visa in Abu Dhabi. If you transfer to wife name, you need to export from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and she re-registers it in Dubai. Yes, I think there's companies that do it - I've seen adverts in paper. If you bought car at co...
