Get an Arabic course on tape/CD/MP3 player and listen in car.

British Council has courses.

You won't need to learn it as much as you think but it is a good thing to do :).

Dubai Marina good location for DIC. Also Greens. Maybe Jumeirah/Umm Suqeim if you want to share a villa. Apartments have long waiting lists in those areas. You should get a good choice of 1 bdrms for 90k. Maybe a 2 bedroom if you're lucky. Better Homes, Asteco, Landmark are letting agents worth tryi...

You could have saved yourself all that typing by just referring him to the SEARCH button or Dubai Expat Help Forum! hahahahahahahaha Thanks for the tip, that's a very clever idea which I'll try and remember. But er, why did you type out everything I said again? That must have taken you a long time ...

The question itself was stereotypical, so how do you expect not to get a stereotypical answer ? ... i am sorry but i fail to see how this is a cultural discussion, but rather a discussion about peoples attitudes regardless of where they are from. I think this point has been made in a more subtle wa...

Thongs are fine - maybe not in the office though depending on where you work. Singlets for a bloke in public will look a little odd but it's not unheard of. Lots of women wear singlets/strappy tops in public. Skirts/shorts are common too.

Hi, I am 15 from Australia and my father just took on a job in dubai. I am going to emirates international school. It seems like a nice school. Which one? I've not lived in Singapore but when visiting there I found it very orderly and nice. I prefer the chaos of Dubai.

Singapore is the girl or boy your parents want you to marry. Dubai is the one you want.

I use an i-mate (O2). It's useful to have a box that does everything and is compact but it doesn't do anything very well. Email and sms is quite good though. the newer i-mates look better.

www.pocketpcdubai.com is a good site for PPC and PDA information.

I'm curious about this, have sometimes thought about getting windows tinted but ...

How much difference does it make to inside temperature when parked in sun?

How noticeable is it when driving at night (for the driver trying to see I mean)?

AFAIK children have to go to school but I don't know if proof of school registration is needed when applying for a residence visa. You'd probably enter the country on a visit visa initially anyway.

Don't go shirts-off though as this isn't generally tolerated by either fun. I think there is actually a regulation saying shirts-off is not permitted in public (except presumably at beaches). By the way, if you visit Sharjah, they have Decency Laws meaning strappy tops, singlets, shorts and bum-tho...

Can anyone help? :( I think tourists get medical care free if it's an emergency. Residents are supposed to have insurance. There's been some changes recently, there may be a government scheme you can sign up to which is cheaper than private schemes (there used to be government health cards anyway)....
