I had the Sitecom IT support guy at my place for a few hours but couldn't solve the problem... so I gave up that brand and refunded the router. I might give Belkin router a go... But has anyone come across problems with DIC provided internet? Or is it simply a compatibility issue with different bran...

Appreciate your comments Ian... but neither I or the IT Technician from Sitecom could get it to work on the weekend, we did try to reset option with no luck. I am not an IT specialist but I would of thought the Sitecom technician would know what he was doing, he also mentioned that he came across a ...

Buying a new car from an authorized dealer in Sharjah...

The prices seem cheaper there in Sharjah, and the dealers have indicated that the cars can be registered in Dubai and warranty is also recognized here... so what are the cons?

Preferential treatment for local Arabs...

We all know that the locals in Dubai receive preferential status above all expats, but I experienced in first hand the full extent of this self-deceiving favouritism last week... as I was waiting in line to enter a free car park of an office tower, an arab queuing behind me got out of his car and kn...

Yes a decent 2-bedroom apartment in a good location would cost you around US$800K to US$1.0m, the locations being either Burj Dubai or Dubai Marina. But CAD is quite high now so can take advantage of this. The top developers here include Emaar Properties, Dubai Properties and Nakheel, but Emaar is w...

Yes many people do share apartments here with your budget... some friends of mine recently moved into the Jumeirah Beach Residence in Marina, a 3 bedroom each paying roughly around AED5K a month. If you work in the Media City then Marina or the Greens are your best bet. A cheaper option is Al Basha ...

Hi Having purchased a property myself and gone through the mortgage application process, I have to agree with your friend's observation as the banks here are not very flexible, and a stable base income is paramount for any loan approvals. Being here for only 3 months will not be adeqate unless you c...

Apartment Building Access Cards

Hi I need to get an extra access card (smart card) for my apartment building as my parents are coming to stay with us for a few months, however the property management doesn't provide additional or temporary cards... any ideas where I can copy an extra card?

Thanks a lot.

I think Nichola was referring to Burj Dubai the area not the actual Burj Dubai tower... ie Burj Residences and Old Town. Burj Residences have Phase 1 and 2 and both have spacious apartments. In comparison Old Town apartments are very unique and have high quality finishes, however the apartments are ...

Well I work in the DIFC and the time it takes for me to get home in Marina is just slightly longer than going back to Burj Residence... that's how bad it is. If your concern is road infrastructure then Burj Residence is definitely not suitable as Dubai Mall will create even more congestion. Personal...

I think you are very fortunate to get your Dubai DL with your UK license as I was under the impression that the origin of the license must match the passport. However it would appear that as long as both the passport and license are from a country on their approved list, then they would issue the Du...

You will not find any decent apartments or villas for AED3,000 per month, in actual fact you won't even be able to find a decent room for that price.

I am not the most up to date with the rental market, but in my opinion your budget would only get you a studio in International City or a small 1-bedroom. You can forget about Arabian Ranges with that allowance... however sharing may be an option for you. Re your budget: DEWA - about right Groceries...

However do expect to fail between 2-3 times before getting your license. The authorities here are not in a rush to issue new licenses in order to control the number of cars on the road, so the examiners are keen to fail applicants.
