Re: Temporary Marriage in Islam

Welcome, and thanks for the contribution. What we really need now is for a Shia (or Egyptian) muslim who believes in this temporary marriage and has practiced it to come forward and let us know why they think it is Islamic. If it is really a common practice then we should, in theory, have no difficu...

Re: Temporary Marriage in Islam

Are you saying that Herve is anti-islamic? What do you base this theory on? Hey BM ;) - try and keep up and read what is posted (this time). Nothing (I repeat NOTHING) in the OP was actually written by herve - it was the article he cut and pasted that I was referring to. As to herve - at least he d...

Re: Israeli Schools: Censorship of Book

Censorship of books in Palestine and Israel seems to be something both sides of the conflict like to do. Banning novels on grounds of decency or religous values is one thing - but censorship of school books?? Surely that deserves a greater condemnation than a blogger reporting two novels were confis...

Re: Will Egypt Follow Tunisia?

I see on the news that hundreds have been arrested in protests:

I hope that it remains relatively peaceful - fascinating to see how this story unfolds.

'Crusaders' running US Military?

An interesting point of view reported in Huffington Post - Seymour Hersh speaking in Qatar highlights the Christian fundamentalists in the US military. Rand Paul: The emperor is not wearing any clothes

In what seems like an impeccable piece of logic, Tea Party representative makes the point that it is bizzare that the US is effectively borrowing money from China to send to Israel as 'military aid' - but is in effect funding an arms race. Egypt, Paul points out, gets almost the same amount of aid. ...

Re: The DDS Chronicles : Sharjah Police Clearance Certificat

I had to get one of those from the Dubai police - my story was a bit shorter, the major issue was finding out where to actually go and get one done. The company PRO (usually very competent) got all the forms filled and then informed me to go to the police station 'past the airport, it's on your righ...

I hope everyone is safe, and continues to be safe. With Mubarak having dismissed the Cabinet, but clinging on to power - it seems that there is some momentum.. However given the clear peoples' wish that Mubarak has to go, I can't see how he can hang on without resorting to violence. :? Loonwatch hav...

After the Prophet: Excellent Book

I've just finished 'After the Prophet' by Lesley Hazelton - whose excellent TED talk on the Quran is a must: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y2Or0LlO6g I was going to write a review - but basically I agree completely with the promotional blurb on her site, quoted below. Highly recommended. I read it...

First British Asian Popstar

I was enjoying an iconic performance of a major pop/rock star who also happens to be an Asian immigrant (of Indian heritage, as some would say) - when it occurred to me that some may not be aware that he was an Asian immigrant. His parents were from Gujarat, India and their ancient ancestors were fr...

Well, he wasn't born in America so can't really be an ABCD!

However, he did change his name from Farrokh Bulsara and did downplay his origins.

On a more serious note, I see that now over 50 people have been killed.

I hope that the people get their wish and have a peaceful 'people's revolution'. It could go either way, but I continue to hope for the best.

Re: Tunisia And Egypt

From the commentaries, the ruling elites in Saudi, Jordan and Kuwait are looking at the events in Egypt with some concern - they share some of the same characteristics of Egypt and Tunisia in terms of suppression of popular/democratic will.
